Rapper Tauheed K. Epps, also known as 2 Chainz, is from the United States. First, he came to prominence as a member of the Southern hip-hop duo Playaz Circle, along with his lifelong buddy and fellow rapper Earl “Dolla Boy” Conyer.
Early Life and Education
Tauheed K. Epps, better known by his stage as 2 Chainz, was born on September 12th, 1977. He was born in College Park, Georgia, in the United States. The rapper was raised by his mother when his father encountered legal problems.
He is the only child of his parents, however, he hasn’t yet told the world who they are. His academic background includes a diploma from North Clayton High School.
His enrollment at Alabama State University was made possible through a scholarship. From 1995 to 1997, he played basketball for the institution.
However, he later transferred to Virginia State University. He is a citizen of the United States even though he is of African American descent.
College basketball career
Later, he received a scholarship at Alabama State University, where he played basketball from 1995 to 1997.
In response to a question from Rolling Stone regarding persistent allegations that he graduated from Alabama State with a 4.0 GPA, which had been extensively reported on numerous websites including Wikipedia, 2 Chainz said:
“Don’t believe anything on Wack-ipedia. There’s a lot of false stuff on there, to the point that every time I try to fix one thing, something else comes out.” In fact, he transferred to Virginia State University due to circumstances he was reluctant to speak about. “I got into trouble, went somewhere else, and came back. But I graduated, and that’s that. That was then,”
Musical career
Epps and his childhood friend Earl Conyers formed the hip-hop group Playaz Circle in 1997, going by the moniker Tity Boi.
Conyers, also known as Dolla Boy, helped 2 Chainz in 2002 with the release of his self-titled debut independent album.
The record drew the attention of Atlanta rapper Ludacris, who helped the pair gain popularity by promoting their tracks for radio airplay. Because he was not yet well-known, Ludacris was living in the same apartment complex and working as a DJ at the time.
Since the rapper swiftly reconnected with Playaz Circle after becoming highly popular, their early bond with Ludacris would prove to be very beneficial.
He convinced 2 Chainz and Dolla Boy to sign with Disturbing Tha Peace, his recently launched record company. This would act as the duo’s launchpad, and “Supply & Demand,” their first studio album, would be released in 2007.
The lead single from the album, “Duffle Bag Boy,” which gained fame rather quickly, featured Lil’ Wayne. When the BET Hip-Hop Awards were held, 2 Chainz performed the song.
After putting out one more studio album, 2 Chainz quit Playaz Circle and Disturbing Tha Peace to concentrate on his solo career.
Breakthrough as a Solo Artist
The rapper formerly known as Tity Boi changed his name to 2 Chainz in 2011 because he thought it was better suitable for his upcoming solo career and more “family-friendly.”
His debut solo album, “T.R.U. REALigion,” was immediately released. Working under his new name and building a strong solo career, 2 Chainz has collaborated with well-known artists including Kanye West and Nicki Minaj.
In 2012, 2 Chainz was prepared to release his debut studio album as a solo performer. The album’s opening track, “No Lie,” originally went by the name “Based on a T.R.U. Story” and featured Drake.
The album debuted at the top of the Billboard Top 200 after selling 147,000 units in just one week. In spite of the album’s poor reviews, 2 Chainz succeeded in a lot of ways.
In addition, 2 Chainz was able to get several lucrative endorsements deals with different companies and take home several BET Hip Hop Awards for the album.
The follow-up to “B.O.A.T.S.,” “B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time,” was made available in 2013. Dolla Boy and 2 Chainz collaborated once more on the album with Lil’ Wayne, Drake, Fergie, Pharrell Williams, T-Pain, Rich Home Quan, and many other well-known musicians. The album was more well-liked, although not as well-known as “Based on a T.R.U Story.”
