In Norway’s Akershus County, Lrenskog municipality, Aksel Lund Svindal was born on December 26, 1982.
His family spent every winter in the ski resort village of Geilo since his grandparents had a home there. Aksel learned to ski in Geilo, which is well-known for its ski areas and mountain trails.
Up to the age of six, Svindal resided in Fetsund, Lillestrm Viken. After that, his family relocated to the Skedsmo municipality, where he spent the remainder of his youth.

Early Years
When Aksel Lund Svindal made his World Cup debut on October 28, 2001, he was 18 years old. He competed in the 2002 World Junior Championships in Tarvisio, Italy, and took home gold in the combined and silver in the super-G event.
Additionally, he received bronze medals in slalom and downhill events. Svindal initially participated in the World Championships in 2003, but it wasn’t until 2005 that he achieved any top-three finishes.
Moreover, Aksel Lund Svindal competed in the 2007 World Championships in Åre, Sweden, and won gold in the giant slalom and downhill competitions.

Injury
When Svindal was on his first practice run for the Birds of Prey downhill ski course on November 27, 2007, in Beaver Creek, Colorado, he was severely injured. He suffered broken facial bones and a significant abdominal and groin wound after crashing into a safety fence.
The remainder of the 2008 season was unfortunately cut short by his inability to return. Svindal, however, returned quickly to the 43rd World Cup season in October 2008 and was at his best.
A year after making a comeback, he won both the downhill and super-G events on the same ski slope where he had been severely injured the year before.
Svindal took part in the Winter Olympics 2010, and on February 15 he took home a silver medal in the downhill event. Norway won its 100th silver medal in the Winter Olympics, a milestone no other nation has previously accomplished.
Svindal won the men’s super-G competition and his first Olympic gold medal on February 19, 2010. On February 23, he also took home the bronze medal in the giant slalom.
At the German-hosted World Championships in 2011, he triumphed in a super-combined once more. Later, in 2013, he took home gold in the downhill and bronze in the super-G competition.
Following his rehabilitation, Svindal competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, where he earned his second gold medal in the downhill competition. He also set a record for the oldest alpine skier to win an Olympic gold medal.
Retirement
Aksel Lund Svindal announced his retirement from the sport of alpine skiing in January 2019.
He did, however, take part in the 2019 Ski World Championships in Re, Sweden, where he placed second in the downhill event. On February 9, 2019, he then made his retirement official.
Svindal finished the World Championships with a total of seven medals: five gold, two silver, and two bronze. He also took home two gold, one silver, and one bronze medal from the Olympic Games.
Svindal won two overall World Cup titles, nine discipline titles, two downhill, five super-G, one giant slalom, and one combined event victory. Similarly, Svindal triumphed in 36 World Cup racing events throughout 17 seasons.
