Thai-British Formula One driver Alex Albon Ansusinha is a current Williams Racing driver. Albon previously raced for Scuderia Toro Rosso and Red Bull Racing in Formula One.

Early Life, Family, and Education

A professional F1 racer named Alex Albon was raised in a racing family in London, England. He is the devoted son of Nigel Albon, a racing driver, and Kankamol.

There are five members of Albon’s family, including him. He is the youngest of four siblings and the fourth in age.

Alex was also conceived by a Thai mother and a British father. He consequently holds dual citizenship with the UK and Thailand. However, he competes in races while flying the Thai flag and is a Buddhist.

The F1 driver received his education at Ipswich High School while growing up in Bures, Suffolk. To pursue his goal of becoming a professional racer, he, however, left school.

The tall, athletic race car driver was born in London. He roughly weighs around  172 lbs. and is 185.5 cm tall.

As a cadet, Albon participated in a number of national-level contests. In the British Grand Prix of the Kartmasters, he finished first.

Additionally, in 2006 and 2007, he won first and second positions in the Super 1 National Honda Cadet Championship.

In 2008, Alex moved up to the KF3 class, where he remained until 2010. He won various Kart Championships during that period, including the CIK-FIA World Cup, the KF Winter Series, the Formula Kart Stars Championship, the Kartmasters British Grand Prix, and many others.

Along with many other great European drivers, he competed in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup Series for Epic Racing. Nevertheless, he placed 38th overall out of 49 contestants.

After having a challenging year in 2012, Alex joined KTR to compete in the 2013 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. Out of 36 contestants, he placed 16th at the competition’s conclusion.

Again, In 2015, Albon moved to European Formula 3 where he partnered with Dorian Boccolacci at Signature. He finished seventh overall. He also had two pole positions, 187 total points, and five podium finishes.

Feature Races

Albon also qualified for the feature race in fourth place. Nonetheless, after the third player was disqualified, he was promoted to third on the provisional starting grid. He finished fifth in the race.

Moving on, he started the sprint race fourth on the grid and secured his first Formula 2 podium.

Later in his career, he finished third in the sprint race at the season finale in Abu Dhabi. Leclerc passed him on the final lap, putting him in second place.

DAMS, a French auto racing team, signed Albon to partner with Nicholas Latifi for the 2018 season.

At the Spain round, he once more qualified on pole but finished fifth in the feature race and took second place behind Jack Aitken in the sprint race.

In addition, during the Monaco round, he was involved in collisions with Roy Nissany of Campos and Nyck de Vries of the feature race. For the Thai driver, it was the round he would forget.

Albon nevertheless prevailed in the Silverstone feature race. Later, he was successful in taking home two victories at the Hungaroring sprint race. He triumphed in Sochi’s main event as well.

Despite strong efforts, his chances of winning the championship were unsuccessful because he placed 14th and 8th in the sprint and feature races, respectively.

In the drivers’ championship, he came in at 3rd position, just behind George Russell and Lando Norris.

2020 -Present Season

Albon had a promising start to the Formula One season of 2020 until he collided with Lewis Hamilton as he passed the British driver for second place and eventually retired. He came in fourth place in the Styrian Grand Prix.

Additionally, Alex placed fifth in the Hungarian Grand Prix and sixth in the Belgian Grand Prix, respectively.

Similar to this, Albon qualified ninth for the Italian Grand Prix, four positions behind teammate Max Verstappen.

Albon managed to secure his first F1 podium at the Tuscan Grand Prix, making him the first Thai driver to win the World Championship. Later, at the Bahrain Grand Prix, he won his second podium.
