Alexandra Dawn “Ali” Wong, a stand-up comic and actress, is American. Her Baby Cobra, Hard Knock Wife, and Don Wong stand-up Netflix specials are well known. In addition to performing in the film Always Be My Maybe, she also produced and authored it.

Early Life, Family, and Education

Ali Wong’s parents, Adolphus Wong and Tam “Tammy” Wong welcomed him into the world on April 19, 1982, in San Francisco, California.

Her mother immigrated to the country in 1960, and her father was born here. She has three siblings as well. In her early years, she had an interest in the comedy business.

She is an American citizen. She is also a mixed-race person of Chinese and Vietnamese ancestry.

Wong graduated from San Francisco University High School in 2000 and attended there. She also graduated from UCLA with a summa cum laude degree. There, she proclaimed her major to be Asian American studies.

How did Ali Wong start her career?

Wong gave stand-up a go at the Brainwash Café. Later, she moved to New York City to concentrate more on her comedy career.  She eventually appeared on The Tonight Show and John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show.

In 2011, she played Ana Ng on the television program “Breaking In.”  In the television show “Are You There, Chelsea,” she also played Olivia. Since then, she has been in countless more movies and TV shows. She has received more than 15 acting credits in total.

Other movies and TV shows in which Wong has appeared include “American Housewife,” “Father Figures,” “Fresh Off the Boat,” “Drive Share,” “The Hero,” and “American Dad!” “Animals,” “Inside Amy Schumer,” and “Dealing with Idiots.”

Wong has five writing credits and two credits as a producer. She also released her most recent special, “Hard Knock Wife,” on May 13, 2018. She was seven months pregnant with her second child when it was filmed in late September 2017 at the Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto.

Book and Voice Over

Ali Wong wrote and starred in the two popular stand-up specials, “Baby Cobra” and “Hard Knock Wife.” Since 2016, her appearances in the specials have become increasingly popular as Halloween costumes.

She has sold out a record-breaking number of shows on her Milk and Money Tour. In an episode of OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes in 2018, she provided the voice of Citrus Twisty, a soda genie.

In the 2019 Netflix movie Always Be My Maybe, which was written by Wong, Park, and Michael Golamco and directed by Nahnatchka Khan, Wong co-starred with Randall Park.

Dear Girls: Intimate Tales, Untold Secrets, and Advice for Living Your Best Life is a book written by Wong that was published on October 15, 2019. Wong describes it as a life guide for her two daughters to read when they’re adults.

She also recently announced that she would co-produce and star in the dramedy BEEF alongside Steven Yeun, Lee Sung Jin, and A24.

Ali currently voices “Bertie” on Netflix animated series Tuca & Bertie Tuca and Bertie, which has moved from Netflix to Adult Swim for season 2.

Don Wong, Wong’s third Netflix stand-up special, was made available in February 2022. She is not noticeably pregnant in her debut stand-up performance in this one.

Ali Wong has been married before. Her husband, Justin Hakuta, is the son of American inventor Ken Hakuta.

The couple exchanged wedding vows on November 27, 2014. Ali and Justin started dating in 2010.

Justin was Avacara’s product lead at the time. She claims that he is an Asian unicorn. The couple had two children.

The couple gave birth to their daughter, Mari Hakuta. Their second child, Niki Hakuta, was born to them.

Ali claims to be the head of the home and has acknowledged that her prospective husband’s family pressured her into signing a prenuptial agreement.


Since Wong was open with the media and stand-ups about miscarrying twins before becoming pregnant with her first daughter, he has a strong personality. Wong asserted that she had taken a lighthearted approach to dealing with her miscarriage.

Justin Hakuta and Ali Wong are divorcing one another. The two have chosen to get divorced after eight years of marriage. The couple announced their divorce filing in April 2022.

Most of the sources claim that the former couple will continue to co-parent their children lovingly.
