Andre Dawkins is an American-born former NBA player who made a brief appearance in the league in 2014.

Andre Dawkins was born out of wedlock on September 19th, 1991, in Fairfax, Virginia, United States. Similarly, Tammy Hill, his mother, was still a teenager when she first met his father, Andre Dawkins Sr.

Further, Tammy had given birth to his older sister, Lacey Dawkins, before him. Moreover, Lacey was killed in a car accident in 2009.

Again, Andre’s parents divorced a year after his birth, bringing him back to his childhood. And, Andre’s father worked as a financial advisor in a firm in Virginia, where the family lived together.

Moving on, Andre’s parents divorced when he was five years old. Also, Two years later, Andre’s father won custody of him, and he moved to Virginia with his father and stepmother.

Similarly, Dawkins began his education at Deep Creek High School in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Aside from that, Andre was athletic and talented in sports.

Further, Andre began playing basketball at Deep Creek and quickly learned the game. Moreover, Andre already knew the fundamentals of basketball before transferring to another high school in the same town.

As a result, Andre graduated with honors from Atlantic Shores Christian Academy in 2009 and enrolled in Duke University in North Carolina for further studies.

College Career

Even though Dawkins arrived at Duke a year ahead of schedule with high hopes, his dreams were quickly dashed. Similarly, Lacey Dawkins, his sister, died in a car accident shortly after he began his first college season.

Further, Lacey and Tammy, their mother, were on their way from Ohio to Durham to watch his game when the incident occurred. Moreover, Andre’s mother, on the other hand, was injured and later recovered.

However, it had a profound effect on him, and Andre was unable to focus well despite playing all of his matches. As a result, Andre’s rookie season saw him average only 4.4 points per game.

Again, Andre was a backup guard for the Blue Devils when they won the national championship that year. Additionally, Dawkins played the final three seasons of his college career with little improvement.

Professional Career

On September 23rd, Andre signed with the Miami Heat to play in the 2014 NBA Summer League. But Andre was rarely on the court and was almost always benched.

Similarly, the club permitted Andre to make a brief appearance in regular season matches.

Further, After a brief stint with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Andre returned to the Heat and appeared in four games with little to no playing time.

 

Moving on, The club eventually decided Andre was no longer useful and released him in early 2015. And, Andre never played in the NBA again during the regular season after that.

Similarly, Andre signed various short-term contracts with the Boston Celtics and was mostly assigned to their D-League affiliate club, the Maine Red Claws (now Maine Celtics).

In addition, in 2015,  Andre traveled abroad to compete in the Italian basketball league, the LBA. But Andre quickly returned home and spent several years in the NBA G League.

Again, Andre continued his professional league journey with much difficulty after associating with various NBA G League clubs such as Texas Legends, Windy City Bulls, and others until 2017.

In 2018, Andre announced his retirement from professional sports. Further, During his retirement, Andre played for the Agua Caliente Clippers.
