Andrew Burton Cashner is a former professional baseball pitcher from the United States. He played for the Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres, Miami Marlins, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, and Boston Red Sox in Major League Baseball.

 Early Life and Family

In Conroe, Texas, Andrew Cashner was born on September 11, 1986, to his parents Jane and Jeffery L. Cashner welcomed him into the world.

He has two siblings. and the middle child is Andrew.

Jane Cashner works as a seamstress while Jeff Cashner is the owner of the Cashner Funeral Home & Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe, Texas.

Since he was young, he has been a baseball player. On a private regulation-size baseball diamond that his parents built on their property, Andrew used to practice baseball with his brother and mother.

Casher attended Conroe High. In 2005, he obtained his high school diploma.

He had a soft spot for the basketball team at his high school.

He was selected by the Atlanta Braves right out of high school. Cashner, however, decided to go to college.

Following his time at Texas Christian University, he attended Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas.

While still in college, Cashner was selected by the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies. He only agreed to the Chicago Cubs’ second offer, when they made him a first-round draft pick, though.

Minor League Baseball Career

Cashner was chosen by the Chicago Cubs (19th overall) in the first round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft. He graduated from Texas Christian University and was admitted.

Baseball America ranked Casner as the fourth-best candidate prior to the 2010 campaign.

For the Chicago Cubs, he played three minor league seasons. He only allowed three home runs, though.

Major League Baseball Career

On May 31, 2010, Cashner made his Major League Baseball debut with the Chicago Cubs. In the 2010 season, he appeared in 53 games as a relief pitcher.

On March 26, 2011, he was named the fifth starter for the Chicago Cubs. However, due to a rotator cuff injury, Cashner was only able to make one start for the team.

A shoulder injury to the rotator cuff results in excruciating pain. For someone with it, having arm movement is a nightmare. A baseball pitcher who experiences it is compelled to take a break.

Cashner was forced to stop competing in tournaments temporarily as a result.

Later, in September, he joined the Chicago Cubs once more, this time as a reliever.

San Diego Padres

On January 6, 2012, the Chicago Cubs dealt outfielder Kyung-Min Na and Cashner to the San Diego Padres. Anthony Rizzo, a first baseman, and Zach Cates, a right-handed starting pitcher, were acquired in the trade.

With the San Diego Padres, Cashner started the season as a reliever. He pitched in relief for 27 games, compiling a 3.81 ERA and 29 strikeouts.

Miami Marlins

On July 29, 2016, the Miami Marlins acquired Cashner, Colin Rea, and Tayron Guerrero from the San Diego Padres. Jarred Cosart, Carter Capps, Josh Naylor, and Luis Castillo were acquired through the trade.

On July 31, 2016, Cashner faced the Cardinals and went six innings, giving up two runs while striking out two.

Baltimore Orioles

On February 15, 2018, Cashner agreed to a two-year, $16 million contract with the Baltimore Orioles. The agreement also had a third-year vesting option.

On June 12, 2018, Cashner had to contend with a lower back strain once more. The 10-day disabled category was then added to his listing.

In his first season with the Baltimore Orioles, he dealt with a few DL stints brought on by injuries.

With 28 starts, Cashner finished the 2018 season with a 4-15 record. In 153 innings, he also had 99 strikeouts.

Additionally, he participated in 19 games for the Baltimore Orioles in 2019 (all starts). In 96 13 innings, he posted a 9-3 record, a 3.83 ERA, and 66 strikeouts.

Boston Red Sox

On July 13, 2019, Cashner was transferred to the Boston Red Sox. Elio Prado and Noelberth Romero, two position players for the minor leagues, were acquired through the trade.

Cashner’s agreement with Baltimore was still in effect. Consequently, the exchange was started using money.

In his first game for the Boston Red Sox, Cashner had a 1-4 record and an 8.01 ERA in 30 13 innings pitched. Then he was given a relief position.

On August 13, 2019, he made his debut in the MLB.

With the Boston Red Sox, Cashner appeared in 25 games, compiling a 2-5 record, one save, and 42 strikeouts in 53 23 innings.

Philanthropy

Along with his brother and sister, Andrew Cashner founded the Cashner Family Foundation, a charitable organization.

Its objective is to donate money to local hospitals and communities on behalf of sick children. The main goal is to give children and their families who are struggling with medical conditions hope and joy.

This foundation is honoring Jane Cashner, the mother of the Cashner siblings. She battled breast cancer in 2004, and in 2015, septic shock caused her to lose a leg.
