The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Andrew in the first round of the 2005 MLB Draft, 11th overall, when he was still a student at the University of Florida.
As a result, he dropped out of Florida and joined the Pirates on a $1.9 million bonus contract.
2005 was a memorable year
He was a member of the First GCL Pirates and the Class A- Williamsport Crosscutters during his rookie season.
In 210 at-bats, he hit.310/.419 (2nd in the Gulf Coast League)/.433, including two home runs and 17 steals.

Meanwhile, he led the league with 29 walks and 36 runs, was third with three triples, and fifth with 13 stolen bases.

2006 was a year of change
McCutchen began the season as a full-time professional player, appearing with the Class A Hickory Crawdads for nearly the entire season.
He also began the South Atlantic League’s All-Star squad, making him a postseason SAL All-Star.
Apart from that, he played the part of the season with the Class AA Altoona Curve, hitting.294/.359/.450 in 531 at-bats, with 17 home runs and 23 stolen bases.
As a result, the Pirates named him Minor League Player of the Year towards the end of the season.

Year 2007
In 513 at-bats, he hit 265/.329/.388 with 11 home runs and 21 stolen bases for the Altoona Indians and the Class AAA Indianapolis Indians.
He was also awarded the Rising Star on the Arizona Fall League All-Prospect Team, while he was playing for the Phoenix Desert Dogs.
Following that, Baseball America ranked him as the minor levels’ #14 prospect, while Baseball Prospectus ranked him as the minor leagues’ #24 prospect.

The year 2008
McCutchen was a member of the Indianapolis Indians in 2008, posting a.283/.372/.398 batting average with 12 home runs, good for tenth place in the International League.
In 512 at-bats, he ranked third in the league with 68 walks, 34 stolen bases, and 145 hits.
Andrew was named an International League All-Star in the middle of the season, an All-Star Futures Game pick, and the Triple-A All-Star Game Top Star throughout the season.

Debut in Major League Baseball
Andrew was called up the next day for his MLB debut, which he began with a game against the New York Mets in which he played center field and batted leadoff.
He had two singles, one RBI, three runs scored, and a stolen base in four at-bats against Mike Pelfrey, who was starting his first career single.
He followed it up with his first career four-hit game against McLouth and the Braves not long after.

Andrew hit his first MLB home run on June 17 against Francisco Liriano of the Minnesota Twins, as the month progressed.
On June 25, he got his first MLB walk-off hit from the Cleveland Indians’ Matt Herges.
Not to mention his performance against the Washington Nationals on August 1st, when he hit three home runs and drove in six runs in a 4-5 victory.

Andrew had 676 at-bats, 751 hits, and 208 multi-hit games in 2,873 plate appearances as of 2018.
He hit 478 singles, 161 doubles, 20 triples, 92 home runs, 6 walk-off home runs, 7 multi-homer games, 357 RBI, 415 runs, 22 sacrifice flies, 345 walks, 41 intentional walks, and 471 strikeouts in those games.
Not to mention, McCutchen was second among all Pirates in lifetime power-speed numbers, fourth in home runs, seventh in walks, extra-base hits, and sacrifice flies, ninth in doubles and intentional walks, and tenth in total bases and hit by pitch.
The San Francisco Giants
McCutchen was dealt with the San Francisco Giants for Kyle Crick, Bryan Reynolds, and $500,000 in international bonus slot money at the start of the 2018 season.
Andrew’s debut game as a member of the team was against the Los Angeles Dodgers when he recorded six hits and four RBIs.

Furthermore, he delivered his final hit in the 14th inning, a three-run walk-off home drive. He had appeared in 130 games for the squad, batting.255 with 15 home runs and 55 RBIs.
The New York Yankees
Andrew was transferred to the New York Yankees before the completion of the 2018 season in exchange for infielder Abiatal Avelino and pitcher Juan De Paula.
Following that, McCutchen shaved his beard to comply with the Yankees’ appearance requirement.
He also had to switch from number 22 to number 26 because number 22 was assigned to Jacoby Ellsbury.
As a result, he hit 255/.368/.424 with 20 home runs, 95 walks, 14 stolen bases, and 65 RBIs in 65 at-bats.
The Philadelphia Phillies
McCutchen and the Philadelphia Phillies agreed to a three-year contract on December 12, 2018. It had a $50 million value, with a $15 million club option and a $3 million buyout in 2022.
Moving forward to June 3, McCutchen suffered a knee injury in a game against the San Diego Padres and underwent an MRI scan the following day.
He had a torn ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury) as a result of the injury and was forced to sit out the rest of the season.
On June 14, he underwent surgery to repair a medial meniscus and reconstruct the ACL in his left knee.

2020
After missing most of the 2019 season, McCutchen had a terrific year in 2020.
Although he struggled in the early months, he put up his finest individual offensive performances near the finish.
