When Dixon joined ABC’s Wide World of Sports as co-host in 1986, she made history as the first woman to anchor a network sports program.
The program was co-hosted by Dixon and Frank Gifford. Dixon worked as a reporter for major sporting events like the Super Bowl, Winter Olympics, Triple Crown, and World Gymnastics Championships in addition to her co-hosting duties.
After leaving network broadcasting in 1989, she briefly co-hosted Jerry Jones’ Dallas Cowboys show before moving back to Tulsa.
Dixon established a broadcasting company called Dixon Productions back in Tulsa. Soon after, Dixon started a statewide broadcast called Oklahomans that celebrated the accomplishments of numerous Oklahomans.
Furthermore, she spoke with many Oklahomans over the course of the program’s 23-year run, including Garth Brooks, Carrie Underwood, David L. Boren, T. Boone Pickens, Mickey Mantle, and Ron Howard. The season of Oklahomans ended in late 2014.
