Bill Maher | Early Life, Education, and Family

On the 20th of January, 1956, William Maher was born in New York. His mother, Julie, was a nurse, and his father, William, was a network news editor and radio presenter. He and his sister were raised in River Vale, New Jersey, and he received his high school diploma from Pascack Hills in 1974. He continued his study at Cornell University, focusing on both English and history.

Maher started his career as a comedian and actor in 1978, the year he graduated from college. He served as the club’s host in 1979 in New York City’s Catch a Rising Star comedy club. He started making appearances on programs like “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson” and “Late Show with David Letterman” a few years later, in 1982.

In 1979, he launched his stand-up comedy career as a host at the New York City comedy club Catch a Rising Star. He quickly became a regular on the TV comedy shows David Letterman and Johnny Carson.

Acting Debut

Moreover, he made his acting debut in 1983 in Joel Schumacher’s upcoming movie “D.C. Cab.” After its debut, the movie got contentious reviews, and it did little to advance his career. On July 25, 1993, he took over as host of “Politically Incorrect,” a late-night political conversation show. The show was first broadcast on Comedy Central, however, it was then switched to the ABC network. In the 1998 Ron Howard comedy “EDtv,” he played himself.
