Brayden Point is a Canadian professional ice hockey center who currently plays for the National Hockey League’s Tampa Bay Lightning. In the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, the Lightning picked Point in the third round, 79th overall.

Early Life

Brayden Point, the daring ice hockey player, was born to his parents in the tiny city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. To this moment, the footballer has not provided any information about his parents, including their names or current whereabouts.

Point became an alternate captain for Canada Pacific, who finished sixth in the 2013 World U-17 Hockey Challenge, while he was only 16 years old. The following year, he was chosen to represent Canada’s U-18 team in the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.

Not to add, he won a gold medal and MVP accolades while assisting Team Canada to a bronze medal finish at the 2014 IIHF World U18 Championships.

Furthermore, Point was a member of Canada’s gold-medal-winning team in the 2015 IIHF U20 World Junior Championships.

Brayden assisted the Warrior during the NHL draft year, scoring 36 goals and 91 points in 72 games.

Point received the 2014 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Games award for his participation. Furthermore, NHL Central Scouting Services placed him 31st among North American skaters.

The Tampa Bay Lightning selected him in the third round, 79th overall, in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Brayden played with the Warriors in the 2014-15 season before signing a three-year entry-level deal with the Lights.

Point was sent to the Lightning’s American Hockey League (AHL) club, the Syracuse Crunch, where he scored two goals and assisted on two others in nine games.

Professional NHL Career

Point was officially named to the opening night roster out of training camp on October 11, 2016. Brayden had a fantastic training camp, as predicted, and everyone agreed, including captain Steven Stamkos and general manager Steve Yzerman, that Point deserved to play in the NHL.

Finally, on October 13, 2016, Brayden made his NHL debut for the Lightning against the Detroit Red Wings. Brayden recorded his first NHL point two days later with an assist against the visiting New Jersey Devils.

Furthermore, Brayden won his first shootout against Florida Panthers goalkeeper James Reimer on his first try. He scored his first NHL goal against the New Jersey Devils the following month.

However, Point missed the following 4-to 6 weeks of games at the end of 2016 due to an upper-body injury received the night before in a game against the Montreal Canadiens.

Brayden returned to the ice for the game against the Boston Bruins. From 2017 to 2018, Brayden received several honors, including NHL Third Star of the Week, 2018 NHL All-Star Game, and many more.

Brayden was also named to Canada’s men’s national ice hockey team for the 2017 IIHF World Championship.

Similarly, Point played in his first NHL Stanley Cup playoff game, which he won against the visiting New Jersey Devils. The young Canadian then earned his first career natural hat-trick in a 4-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on November 15, 2018.

All three goals were scored in 1:31 seconds, making it the sixth-fastest three-goal sequence in NHL history.

The point was clearly valuable to the organization, and on September 23, 2019, Tampa Bay re-signed him to a three-year, $20.25 million contract deal.
