Brendan Schaub is a popular American podcast host, a former professional mixed martial artist as well as a stand-up comedian. He is well-known as the host of The Fighter and the Kid podcast, the Below the Belt with Brendan Schaub podcast, and co-host of the King and the Sting podcast.

Early Life, Family, and Education

He was born on 18th March 1983 in Aurora, Colorado, the USA  to his father, Peter Schaub, and his mother, Debra Schaub.

Later on, Brendan got released and instead signed with the Arena Football League’s Utah Blaze. Unfortunately, he retired from the game back in 2007.

Early Career

After his retirement, Brendan Schaub started training in boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Likewise, after his training, the young Schaub competed in amateur boxing and won his first Colorado novice-division Golden Gloves heavyweight title.

After that, he trained at High Altitude Martial Arts, where he also met UFC Heavyweight contender Shane Carwin.

Professional Career

Finally, he made his MMA debut ad even won the heavyweight title with a 4-0 record in 2008. Later on, he signed with Ultimate Fighting Championships(UFC) to compete in the Ultimate Fighter’s tenth season in 2009

Brendan made his way to the UFC Heavyweight division with time and fought one contender after another. He fought with Chase Gormley, Chris Tuchscherer, Gabriel Gonzaga, Mirko Cro Cop, Antonio Rodriguez Nogueira, Ben Rothwell, and more during his three years in UFC.


Brendan was expected to face Lavar Johnson but was forced out of the bout due to a groin injury on 8th December 2012. After that bout was postponed to 23rd February 2013, which he won.

After recovering from a groin injury, he faced Matt Mitrione and then Andrei Arlovski.

Similarly, Brendan lost via TKO to Travis Browne at the UFC 181 on 6th December 2014. Later on, he was seen in a podcast with Joe Rogan, his friend, and UFC commentator, who suggested Schaub retire and be a comedian.

Finally, Brendan announced his retirement while he was on The Joe Rogan Experience.

After his official MMA retirement, he began his career as an entertainer. He started their podcast titled ‘The Fighter and The Kid’ along with his friend Bryan Callen.

Although he released his solo podcast titled Big Brown Breakdown as a podcaster in December of 2016. Likewise, his podcast mainly focused on topics like combat sports.

Schaub collaborated with Showtime to rebrand his podcast to “BELOW THE BELT with Brendan Schaub” in 2018. Theo Von and Brendan Schaub announced creating a new podcast titled “King and the Sting.”

Stand-up and On-screen Appearances Career

Besides his podcast career, Brendan also began pursuing a stand-up comedy career.

He performed till mid-2016 along with his partner, Bryan. Later on, he debuted as a solo comedian at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles.

In 2016 he released a sketch comedy series on iTunes called The Fighter and the Kid 3D. He made his first debut movie in Range 15.

Brendan started working for E! Entertainment News in 2018. Meanwhile, he co-hosted after-shows of the Golden Globes, Academy Awards, Emmy Awards, People’s Choice Awards, and Grammy Awards.

Schaub served as a panelist for the television show Bravo’s Play-By-Play on the Bravo network in 2018. Brendan filmed his first-ever Showtime comedy special titled “You’d Be Surprised,” which debuted on 18th May 2019.

Furthermore, he made his second movie appearance in David Ayer‘s The Tax Collector in 2020.
