When he graduated from Yale College in 1969, he became a member of the fraternity Delta Kappa Epsilon.

After completing his college studies at Yale, Calvin continued to be passionate about football, and the Dallas Cowboys chose him in the opening round of the 1969 NFL Draft.

Hill played tight end and linebacker during his first few days of training camp because he was drafted as an athlete.

During his first year with the Cowboys, he was voted NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, Pro Bowl, and All-Pro. a season-long 942 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.

He also played with the Cowboys for six seasons, helping them to two NFC titles and Super Bowl VI.

In the second round of the WFL Pro Draft in March 1974, the Hawaiians selected Hill.

Before rejoining the NFL after the WFL disbanded, he took part in three WFL games in 1975. He then signed a free-agent contract with the Washington Redskins on April 3, 1976.

Moreover, He spent two seasons as a Redskins player before announcing his retirement in August 1978.

On September 25, 1978, Hill did sign a deal with the Cleveland Browns after they persuaded him to put off his retirement.
