Candace Nicole Parker is an American professional basketball player for the Women’s National Basketball Association’s Chicago Sky. The Los Angeles Sparks selected her first overall in the 2008 WNBA Draft. Parker is a talented forward and center who typically plays forward.
Childhood and Education
Parker was born on April 19, 1986, under the sign of Aries. She is also the youngest of three siblings, with two older brothers, Anthony Parker and Marcus Parker.
Natasha Parker and Larry Parker are her parents, and she was born in St. Louis, Missouri. They did, however, relocate to Naperville, Illinois, when they were two years old and grew up there.
Candace comes from a sporting family, as her father, Larry, was a collegiate basketball player who played at the University of Iowa. Later in life, Larry coached basketball for 12 years.
Anthony, one of her two elder brothers, was a USA Basketball player who spent nine years in the NBA and six years in Europe. Marcus, her other elder brother, is a doctor.
Parker, in reality, attended Naperville Central High School in Naperville, Illinois. She is also the only person to have won the USA Today High School Player of the Year award twice.
Candace Parker enrolled at the University of Tennessee in 2004, after announcing her decision on November 11, 2003, during her senior year.
As a result, she graduated from Tennessee in 2008 with a 3.35 GPA as a sports management major.

Parker entered the 2008 WNBA Draft immediately after graduating. During that time, she was selected first overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in the first round.
Parker made her professional debut on May 17, 2008, against the Phoenix Mercury. She broke the rookie record of 25 points in her maiden game with 34 points as a rookie.
Candace is also the first WNBA player to dunk twice in their career. Not to add that she won Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player in the same season.
Parker struggled at times the next season, and when her rookie contract ended, she re-signed with the organization in 2012.
Meanwhile, she was named WNBA All-Star MVP and WNBA Most Valuable Player in 2013. As a result, she became the sixth player in WNBA history to win multiple trophies.
Parker re-signed her contract as an unrestricted free agent in 2016. By the end of the season, she had been named one of the league’s top 20 players of all time, and this was announced during the WNBA’s twentieth anniversary.
She signed another multi-year contract with the Sparks, this time through 2020. During her time, she became the league’s sixth triple-double player, with a career-high 11 assists.
Parker has the finest WNBA stat line of 2018 with 21 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds, four steals, and two blocks. Parker won the first Defensive Player of the Year award in 2020.
Candace Parker made her USA Basketball debut in August 2004 with the under 18 teams. She led her team to gold at the FIBA Americas Championship in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, at the time.
Similarly, she led the USA Basketball to victories against Australia in 2008 and France in 2012. She was also a member of the 2009vUSA Basketball Women’s National Team training camp at the time.
She was chosen throughout the program to go around Ekaterinburg, Russia, for the 2009 UMMC Ekaterinburg International Invitational. Parker has played for UMMC Ekaterinburg in the Russian League during their offseason.
Pregnancy and Injuries
Parker originally experienced knee problems in high school, for which she underwent surgery. She underwent surgery on both the lateral meniscus and the lateral articular cartilage in her left knee at the time.
Parker missed the first eight games of the 2009 WNBA season due to her pregnancy with her daughter, Lailaa Nicole Williams, in January 2009. Tina Thompson and Betty Lennox assisted cover her job until she returned on July 5, 2009.
Candace Parker had a dislocated left shoulder in June 2010 while retrieving a defensive rebound with 2 minutes 55 seconds remaining.
It appears to be the same issue that has bothered her since high school.
In addition, her shoulder injury forced her to miss the entire season after just appearing in ten games.
Parker sustained a torn ligament in her right knee the same year she had an MRI. She did not play in the 2011 WNBA All-Star Game due to an injury.
She also took a break in 2015 following a low moment in her career in 2014. Simultaneously, Williams Group Holdings acquired control of the Sparks in 2014.
Candace also experienced a hamstring injury in her left leg during preseason games in May 2019. She was out of the game for around 3 to 4 weeks at the time.
Parker passed up the opportunity to be named to the first and second WNBA All-Defensive Teams in 2020.
As a result, several disagreements arose, as the public favored her for the Defensive Player of the Year Award, while coaches preferred her for the All-Defensive Teams.
