Carlos Salcido is the current president of the Liga de Balompie Mexicano and a former Mexican professional footballer. He began his career as a center-back. In addition, he won the Olympic gold medal in 2012.

Early Life and Childhood

A Mexican football player, Carlos Salcido was born on April 2, 1980, in Ocotlan, Jalisco, Mexico.
Salcido was from a large family. He was born to his parents Pablo Salcido Rodriguez and Maria Flores Ruiz gave birth to Salcido. Carlos was the fifth of Pablo Salcido and Maria Flores Ruiz’s seven children.

Carlos’ mother died of cancer in December 1989, while he was just nine years old.
He dropped out of school in sixth grade due to poverty and was forced into the lumber trade by the age of 11.

He used to work in the mornings and evenings and go to school during the day. Likely, in search of a better life, he attempted to enter the United States when he was 14, but his mission failed.

Following that, Carlos’s father gathered funds and sent him to Guadalajara. He cleaned vehicles and trucks, worked in glassworks, and was also a mechanic.

Carlos was 19 when he was fired from an illegal repair shop where he had previously worked.

Career| Professional Life

After a tough upbringing, his life began to improve when he began playing professional football.

He began playing football since he was highly compensated. He did, however, consider becoming a professional player after joining the Chivas Mexico club.

Salcido’s dedication was recognized when he was initially called up to the senior team in 2001. He made his Mexican Primera League debut in a 1-1 tie against La Piedad.

Following the 2006 World Cup, he was linked with English club Arsenal, but he put those rumors to rest by signing a four-year contract with PSV.

In his debut season, he missed only one Eredivisie match, and PSV was proclaimed champions.

On November 18, 2006, he scored his first goal in the renowned PSV shirt, a magnificent long-distance strike against Excelsior Rotterdam.

Before the start of the 2007/08 season, he received the number 3 jersey from his teammate Michael Reiziger. He got promoted to Vice-Captain.

During his four-year career at PSV, his club won the Dutch league twice. Salcedo appeared in 123 games and scored three goals. After the 2010 World Cup, he departed PSV for Fulham.

Carlos provided assistance to American player Clint Dempsey on his debut against Blackburn Rovers. Unfortunately, Salcido’s stay in England was not as enjoyable as it had been in the Netherlands.

He appeared in 28 games for Fulham. However, once the season ended, he requested that the club loan him back to his own country.

Carlos Salcido | Position

Throughout his career, Salcido filled a variety of roles. As a right-footed player, he began his career as a left-back. In his early career, he was a fantastic attacking left-back.

His playing style was comparable to that of center backs. He began his PSV career as a left-back, but as time progressed, he periodically moved to the center.

Even as a center-back, he maintained his previous level of performance. He could play both positions equally by the time he left PSV.

Salcido got the assignment of the job of LB again after signing for Fulham in 2010.

He was excellent on the offensive end of the field, but he suffered on the defensive end. As a result, upon his move to UANL, he was assigned the role of a defensive midfielder.

Soon after his return to Guadalajara, he was given the starting berth at center-back, where he performed just as well as he did in defensive midfield.

After 2014, he usually played center back and defensive midfield till the end of his career.

Salcido began his career as a left-back, where he primarily played attacking football. However, after leaving PSV, he developed into a ball-holding center back and defensive midfielder.

International Career

He has represented his nation in a number of events, both at the junior and senior levels. In the same way, he made his international debut against Trinidad & Tobago in a world cup qualifying match on September 8, 2006.

In addition, he participated in three World Cups: 2006, 2007, and 2011. On August 2, 2014, he announced his retirement from international football.

Carlos Salcido | Return to Mexico

He helped Tigres UANL win their third league title and first in 30 years in his first season back in his home country. Following the league victory, he signed a long-term contract with the Tigres.

On May 20, 2014, they made the formal announcement of Salcido’s return to Guadalajara.

After the 2014 World Cup, he played three friendly matches before returning to play his first official game on July 20 against Chiapas.

After his comeback, he left admirers with numerous great moments.

He got married to the extremely lovely Fabiola Salcido. The couple tied the knot in 2008 and has had a lovely marriage. Carlos and Fabiola currently have one child but are pregnant with another. The couple is soon gonna be a parent of two.

Carlos had to settle in many locales as a football player throughout time. His residence in Claygate, London, was looted when he was playing for Fulham.

The incident shook his family and he had to return to Mexico in 2011.

Carlos is five feet and eight inches (175 cm) tall and weighs 75 kg.

His birthplace is Mexico. As a result, his nationality is Mexican. In addition, he is of white ethnicity and was born under the sign of Aries.

Carlos’s Tattoo

Carlos’ mother died of cancer in December 1989, while he was just nine years old. He got a tattoo on his left shoulder, which reads  “In remembrance of my mum, RIP,”
