The moment Cheick enrolled at Our Savior New American School in Centereach, New York, he began practicing basketball.

He was outplayed by Chris Obekpa as a freshman but later improved.

Diallo received an invitation to the NBPA Top 100 camp in 2013 and went on to become the event’s first MVP from Africa.

As a junior, he added 18.5 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks. Diallo won the award for MVP of the 2015 McDonald’s All-American Boys Game after scoring crucial points.

In addition, he was named the MVP of the Jordan Brand Classic in 2015 for his stat-setting performance of 26 points and 11 rebounds.

He received a five-star rating as a result, and in the 2015 high school class, he was ranked as the No. 3 power forward and No. 7 overall recruit.

Likewise, Diallo started classes at the University of Kansas on April 28, 2015. However, the young Cheick missed the first five games of his freshman season because the NCAA did not approve him to play.

On November 25, 2015, he was finally given permission to compete for the Jayhawks in their games against Loyola on December 1.

Cheick eventually made it to the NBA draft in April 2016 and forfeited his final three years of college credit.

Professional Career

Diallo would undoubtedly be selected in the draft based on his abilities and on-court performance. On June 23, 2016, Cheick was selected, as anticipated and as expected.

The Los Angeles Clippers also selected him in the 2016 NBA Draft with the 33rd overall pick.

Only one month after playing in five Summer League games, Diallo signed with the team, averaging 10.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per contest.

Similar to that, Diallo made his eagerly awaited NBA debut on October 29, 2016, playing six minutes off the bench and recording one rebound and one block.

However, the Pelicans lost to their rival, the San Antonio Spurs, 98-79. Cheick played in just two games for a total of seven minutes during his rookie campaign.

After that, on December 10, 2016, Diallo came off the bench and played for just under 31 minutes while scoring a total of 19 points. Then he grabbed 10 rebounds and made 8 of 15 field goal attempts.

Young Diallo had 12 points and 16 rebounds in the Pelicans’ 103-100 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers in the season finale.

In a March 2018 loss to the Washington Wizards, 116-97, he recorded a season-high 14 points. A season-high 18 points were also scored by Diallo on February 6, 2019, in a 125-120 victory over the Chicago Bulls.

On July 23, 2019, Diallo, who had been a player for New Orleans for three years, officially parted ways with them. He subsequently agreed to a two-year contract with the Phoenix Suns.

On February 2, 2021, he inked a deal with Avtodor Saratov of the VTB United League after leaving the Suns. He also signed with Fuenlabrada of the Spanish Liga ACB on April 14, 2021.
