Chris Paul, better known by his nickname CP3, is an NBA basketball player from the United States. He has won over 20 career highlights and award distinctions with his extraordinary skills, beginning with his high school achievements as a McDonald’s All-American.

Early Life, Parents, Siblings

Chris Paul “CP3” was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to proud parents Charles Edward Paul and Robin Paul on May 6th, 1985. He has an older brother named C.J. Paul.

Throughout their childhood, Paul’s father taught him basketball and football, as well as coached him in numerous juvenile leagues.

He led the Winston-Salem-based Kappa Magic to the National U-17 AAU title this summer, garnering tournament MVP honors in the process.

Because his 61-year-old grandfather was killed earlier in the year, Paul earned national notice for scoring 61 points in a senior season game, and Chris honored him by scoring one point for each year of his life.

In the same game, he was selected Mr. Basketball in North Carolina, McDonald’s All-American, and First-time Parade All-American by The Charlotte Observer.

College Career

Paul set school freshman records for three-point %, free throws, free throw percentage, assists, and steals during his freshman year at Wake Forest University.

He was selected ACC Rookie of the Year and Third Team All-ACC after assisting West Forest University in qualifying for the NCAA tournament.

For the first time in the school’s history, Wake Forest was ranked first in his sophomore season.

Paul hit NC State guard Julius Hodge in the crotch in the final game of the season, earning him a one-game ACC Tournament punishment.

Paul’s reputation was harmed as a result of this occurrence.

The Demon Deacons made the NCAA tournament but were defeated by the West Virginia Mountaineers in the second round.

Professional Career

The Hornets of New Orleans (1905–2011) were a professional basketball team based in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Paul was the fourth overall choice in the 2005 NBA draft by the New Orleans Hornets, and he played for the Hornets from 2005 to 2007.

As a result of Hurricane Katrina, the Hornets played the majority of their games in Oklahoma City. Paul finished first among rookies in points, assists, steals, and a double-double, becoming only the second rookie in NBA history to lead the league in total steals.

NBA Rookie of the Year was awarded to him. With 17 assists and 9 steals at the 2007 All-Star Weekend, he set a new Rookie Challenge record.

He doubled his scoring in his sophomore season, but due to an injury, he only appeared in 64 games.

Rise to Stardom

Paul made his first NBA All-Star Game appearance in front of home fans in New Orleans during the 2007-2008 season.

Under Paul’s guidance, the Hornets remained at the top of the Western Conference all season, finishing first on March 17 after defeating the Chicago Bulls.

Paul led the NBA in scoring, assists, and thefts per game, averaging 21.1 points, 11.6 assists, and 2.7 steals. He was named to the first All-NBA and All-Defensive teams, finishing second in the NBA Most Valuable Player Award voting.

Before the start of the 2008-09 season, Paul agreed to a $68 million contract deal with the Hornets. On December 17, 2008, he broke the NBA record for most straight steals with 106.

Coach Bryon Scott was fired after a rocky start to the 2009-2010 season. By expressing his disapproval of the move, CP3 sparked controversy.

He stated that the team’s administration should have communicated with him and inquired about his feelings about the change.

Paul tore his cartilage in February 2010 and was forced to sit out the All-Star game as a result of the surgery. Without Paul, the Hornets labored and fell short of the playoffs.

Paul received a concussion and was carried off the court on a stretcher during the 2010-2011 season after colliding with Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ramon Sessions.

Two games later, against the Sacramento Kings, he returned to action. With Paul playing a complete season, the Hornets qualified for the playoffs.
