They released the song I Don’t Know later in 1962. They switched to another recording label, Duke Imprint, shortly after the release. Not only did they change studios, but they also changed their name to the C&C Boys.

The duo released four albums with the label, including Hey Marvin. Clarence and his team relocated to the Fame Studio in 1965. Step By Step and the flip side, Rooster Knees, And Rice, cost the duo around $85 to record.

Meanwhile, Atlanta radio personality Zenas Sears introduced them to an Atlantic Records producer. Clarence and Calvin recorded Step By Step in the latter studio. However, the song was not successful in reaching the top of the charts.

As a result, Clarence and Calvin were on the lookout for a new recording company. However, they were unable to work with any of their preferred recording studios.

As a result, they began performing regularly for Birmingham’s 2728 Club in 1966. Unfortunately, while returning home from the club, Clarence’s partner, Calvin, was seriously injured.

Clarence’s Journey As A Solo Artist

Calvin was critically injured in the car accident, so the legend had to start his solo career. Clarence signed with the Fame Label in 1967.

He also released his first solo single, Tell Daddy, which reached number 35 on the Billboard R&B chart. Clarence later joined Atlantic Record at the end of 1967.

He released his single, Slip Away, through the record, which spawned many of his super hit singles. Too Weak To Fight and Back Door Santa are two other hits.

Before joining ABC Records, he also worked with the Fame Studio. Clarence released several songs while working for ABC Records, including Temptation and Loneliness.

Clarence was at the pinnacle of his success until the mid-1970s. However, due to the disco craze in the mid-1970s, his singing career was slightly disrupted.

Carter releases his single Heartbreak Woman in April of 1904. This song, among others, went on to become a hit.

Between 1980 and 1990, he composed and sang songs like Strokin and Dr.C.C., which became the go-to tune for everyone.

Clarence started working with the Ichiban Label in 1985 as well. He also has his studio, Cee Gee Entertainment.
