American mixed martial artist Clay Guida, also known for his ring moniker “The Carpenter,” competes internationally.

He has taken over the Strikeforce Lightweight Championship thanks to his victory against Josh Thomson.

In 2009, Clay won the Fight of the Year Award. He competed in several fights while he was a member of the MMA and earned Fight of the Year (2007). He has previously competed in MMA for Strikeforce.

Guida decided to pursue a career as a boxer after enrolling at Harper College. But he had yet to experience a turning point in his life.

Clay received a call the day before the qualification while he was lounging on a couch and asked whether he could put on weight.

Guida had to compete in 149 kg at the time despite weighing 160 kg. He declined the theUntiler since it appeared unattainable at the moment.

Clay still feels bad about turning down the opportunity. He would have been a member of the national team if he had taken the invitation, after all.

In 2003, Clay Guida finally turned professional, although he was unable to go past the first round due to a rear-naked choke.

After a month, Guida defeats Josh Thompson by unanimous decision to claim the Strikeforce Lightweight Championship.

He does, however, drop the crown while competing against Gilbert Melendez (then undefeated).

Likewise, Clay was signed by Zuffa and the WEC after he was defeated by Japan in a submission match.

Similar to that, Guida debuted in WEC23 for promotional purposes. Additionally, Clay wins his first match by unanimous decision and has a career record of 20-6. Clay Guida later signs with UFC.

But in UFC 64, Clay Guida defeats Justin James through submission in the second round to mark his triumphant UFC debut.

The beginning of Clay Guida’s UFC career has not been spectacular. However, a slew of losses followed.

Similar to how Roger Huerta defeated Guida in his second bout, Guida was defeated by a rear-naked choke in the Ultimate Fighter 6 Finale.

But after defeating UFC rookie Samy Schiavo by TKO in UFC Fight Night 13, Guida went on to resume his winning ways.

In the same vein, Guida triumphs against Mac Danzing in UFC Fight Night 15 by majority decision.

Surprisingly, Guida won the Ultimate Fighter by a split decision at UFC 94. He even defeated Nate Diaz.

Guida gets defeated by Diego Sanchez in the United States vs. United Kingdom Finale by a split decision.

Even though he lost, Guida was awarded Fight of the Night Honor, and afterward, it was ranked number thirteen on lists of the “100 Greatest UFC fights.”

Guida was one of the best fighters in the UFC, yet the 2009 UFC video game did not include him.

Additionally, it was because of his long hair and technological issues. Dana White even made Guida an offer of $10,000 to trim it, but Clay declined the proposal.

Finally, in 2017, word spreads that Guida will fight Erik Koch in a lightweight match.

Guida, though, didn’t benefit from that maturation; during his career in the Furthur UFC, Guida has won three submission victories and six fights of the night awards.
