Clifford Robinson is a popular American professional basketball player. He is well-known as the forward and center who played for five NBA teams, most notably the Portland Trail Blazers from 1989 to 1997.

Early life, Childhood, and Education

He was born on 16th December 1966 in Buffalo, New York, the USA to his mother, Helena Horne, and his father whose name is still unknown.

Robinson holds American nationality and belongs to a mixed (African-American) ethnic background and his star sign is Sagittarius.

He grew up his whole childhood in Buffalo, New York, the USA. Although, Robinson lost his father at an early age and did not have any siblings.

Early Career

Initially, Robinson played four seasons at the University of Connecticut beginning in 1985. His team The Huskies won the 1988 National Invitation Tournament championship, and he was listed on the all-tournament team.

After that, Robinson was listed on UConn’s All-Century men’s basketball team. Likewise, he participated in “Huskies of Honor” on 5th February 2007, where Clifford’s number “00” was retired at Gampel Pavilion.

Professional Career

Clifford Robinson entered the 1989 NBA draft where the Portland Trail Blazers selected him in the second round as the 36th overall pick. Robinson played for the Trail Blazers for eight seasons till now.

He played for his team in the NBA Finals in 1990 and 1992. Robinson received the Sixth Man of the Year Award in 1992–93 after averaging 19.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and a career-best 1.99 blocks per game.

He became an All-Star with the team in 1994. Robinson was forced to end his 461 iron man streak of consecutive games against the Golden State Warriors on 22nd February 1995.  Meanwhile, this streak stands as a franchise record for the Trail Blazers.

Later on, Robinson signed with the Phoenix Suns as a free agent on 25th August 1997, where he remained for four more seasons. He made a career-best 50 points against the Denver Nuggets on 16th January 2000.

He was listed as the oldest player in NBA history to register his first 50-point game, aged 33 years and 2 months. After that, Robinson was traded to the Detroit Pistons on 29th June 2001, in exchange for Jud Buechler and John Wallace.

Similarly, Robinson was traded to the Golden State Warriors on 21st August 2003, along with Pepe Sánchez, in exchange for Bob Sura. Likewise, he played all 82 games during the regular season, where he would not participate in the NBA playoffs.

Meanwhile, Golden State traded Robinson to the New Jersey Nets in exchange for two second-round draft picks on 14th February 2005.

During his career, he played with the Nets for two more seasons until he was released by the team in July 2007. Finally, he retired from his basketball career.

Apart from this, Clifford Robinson is one of the advocates for the legalization of cannabis (marijuana). Additionally, he also provided support to reform cannabis laws in the U.S. states of Oregon and Connecticut.

Meanwhile, Robinson suffered a stroke in March 2017 that paralyzed the left side of his body, but he soon recovered much of his arm and leg movement. After that, he had a tumor removed from his jaw in March 2018.

Robinson underwent surgery for cancer treatment in March 2019. He passed away due to lymphoma on 29th August 2020, at the age of 53.
