For both his junior and senior years of high school, Bellinger received awards and recognition as the most valuable player (MVP).

When he was invited to the pre-draft practice while still in high school, a lot of opportunities came knocking.

However, several organizations passed on the pick because he only hit one home run that season.

Professional Career

Cody was taken by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fourth round, 124th overall, at the 2013 MLB Draft.

He had previously committed to play collegiate baseball for the University of Oregon’s Oregon Ducks, but he elected to cancel it to sign with the MLB.

Bellinger chose to break his promise to the college club instead of joining them, and he inked a deal with the Dodgers for a bonus of about $700,000.

Although he struggled with plate discipline and struck out 46 times in 47 games with the Arizona League Dodgers, where he made his professional debut, he possessed the potential and drive to try his hardest.

He participated in 46 Pioneer League games for the Ogden Raptors the next season as a rookie, hitting 0.328 with 34 RBIs.

In the California League, where he hit 12 home runs and was among the top five batters in age, he gradually began to gain attention.
