Constance Wu reveals on Twitter that she attempted suicide after getting backlash to ‘Fresh Off The Boat’ tweets- It took her three years to work on her mental health!!
Physical health is important but mental health is as important too. No one is aware of the things that might affect the other person and can trigger suicide. We believe the same happened with Constance Wu.
Constance Wu revealed that she tried to end her life three years ago. AND THE REASON?? After the renewal of “Fresh Off The Boat”, she posted a tweet, which received a lot of backlashes. This is the reason that she tried to end her life.
Well, Constance explained the reason, she was upset is because to her, the renewal of Fresh Off the Boat’s meant she had to give up other projects that she was passionately looking forward to work on. However, following the incident, Wu disappeared everywhere after this incident for three years, from her work and her social media. She explained it further after facing backlash for the negative comment she tried suicide.
Wu writes a Twitter on Thursday about her experience, what she felt at the moment, what triggered her,
“Looking back, it’s surreal that a few DMs convinced me to end my own life, but that’s what happened. Luckily, a friend found me and rushed me to the ER.”It was a scary moment that made me reassess a lot in my life”
She said that it is bizarre to even hear that a few negative comments and backlashes made her to this extreme step. Well, It is possible that the smallest thing can trigger mental health. It is not in self-control and there is no such reason behind that effect.
“My tweets became a subject so touchy that most of my AsAm [Asian American] colleagues decided that was the time to avoid me or ice me out. I’ll admit it hurt a lot, but it also made me realize how important it is to reach out and care for people who are going through a hard time.”
She expresses saying that it was the scariest moment of her life. The main thing that most affected her was her Asian American friends started to ignore her/ avoid her. That is the thing that mostly hurt her.

Some of her friends said that she is a disease to the Asian American community and she received many such awful comments from her friends. Moreover, After this incident, she felt like she doesn’t have any right to live anymore because that deeply engraved her emotions.
Additionally, She mentioned that Asians generally do not talk about mental health as it is some sort of taboo. They will always avoid the situation when it comes rather than find some solutions. And same happened with her when she posted the tweets her Asian American friends cut ties with her.
She further added that she wrote a book about it including the solutions for mental health problems. Constance had talked about reaching out to people to talk about the uncomfortable kinds of stuff as well and encourage healing.
“That’s why I wrote my book and why I’m here today — to reach out and help people talk about the uncomfortable stuff in order to understand it, reckon with it, and open pathways to healing,”
The title of the book is “Making a scene” which will release in October.
