Cori Gauff is a professional tennis player from the United States. She is the Women’s Tennis Association’s youngest player rated in the top 100, with a career-high ranking of world No. 13 in singles and No. 5 in doubles, both achieved on June 6, 2022.

Early Life, & Education

Cori Gauff was born on March 13, 2004, somewhere in Delray Beach, Florida, USA. She is the child of Corey and Candi Gauff.

She spent much of her childhood in Atlanta, Georgia. However, the family returned to Delray to concentrate on Corey’s tennis.

Her father, Corey Gauff, was an athlete who played collegiate basketball at Georgia State University and worked as a health care executive.

Candi Gauff, her mother, was a Florida State University track & field athlete and schoolteacher. She also has two younger brothers, Codey and Cameron, who are also active in sports from an early age.

The little girl spent her youth in Atlanta, watching famous tennis players, particularly the Williams sisters, play.

As previously said, Coco grew up watching tennis and began playing at the age of six. After winning the “Little Mo” eight-and-under nationals at the age of eight, she decided to pursue tennis as a career.

Serena Williams has always been an inspiration to her.

Meanwhile, she was taught at New Generation Tennis Academy by Gerard Logo.

Gauff began training at the Mouratoglou Academy, which is led by Patrick Mouratoglou, who previously taught Serena Williams.

Due to financial problems, Coco was unable to continue her high-level tennis training. Patrick, on the other hand, contributes to Gauff’s foundation in order to provide exceptional young tennis players like Coco.

Coco became the tournament’s youngest champion when she won the USTA Clay Court National 12-and-under championship at the age of ten.

Furthermore, at the age of 12, she competed in Les Petits As (junior tennis events for children aged 14 and younger) and advanced to the quarterfinals.

Junior Titles

With this achievement, the little girl began playing on the ITF Circuit at the age of 13 and advanced to the top Grade A and Grade 1 competitions.

She finished second in her junior Grand Slam debut at the US Open in 2017. Similarly, Coco became the French Open’s fifth-youngest single girl’s champion.

She became the world’s No. 1 junior in 2018 after defeating McNally at the Grade 1 Junior International Roehampton.

Gauff concluded the year as the world’s No. 2 junior after winning the Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship.

Professional Career

She won her first professional match after qualifying for the $25k tournament on the ITF Women’s Circuit in May 2018.

Gauff became the youngest player in the Open Era to enter Wimbledon’s main draw at the age of 15, breaking a record.

Coco improved her game and won two singles championships at the US Open after defecting against Anastasia Potapova and Timea Babos.

Following two more events in the US Open, the American lost in the qualifying round but was a fortunate loser in the main draw.

Fortunately, she won the championship and advanced to the quarterfinals round. Furthermore, with the defection of Jeena Ostapenko in the final, Gauff became the youngest player to win a single title since 2004 in 2019.

Gauff and McNally finished the year by winning the second WTA doubles title against Kaitlyn Christian and Alexa Guarachi.

Coco began her 2020 season as the world’s 67th ranked player, competing at the 2020 ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand.
