Dash and rapper Jay Z launched Roc-A-Fella Records together. He was Jay’s business partner and former manager of Roc-A-Fella Records. Dash managed Jay’s 1999 tour, which grossed $19 million dollars.

Damon’s net worth peaked at $50 million during the popularity of Roc-A-Fella records. But, the good days did not last forever. Jay Z and Damon’s friendship deteriorated after Roc-A-Fella Records was purchased by Def Jam Recordings in 2004.

Jay Z then became the President of Def Jam. In late 2005, Jay-Z bought Dash out of his Rocawear shareholding. Their relationship was formally over as a result of these incidents.

His success as a record producer encouraged him to branch out into other fields, where he also found great success. He co-founded two clothing brands with Jay-Z, the most successful of which was Rocawear, which was later sold for hundreds of millions of dollars.

When the company was booming, Damon used his clout to expand into a variety of other industries and businesses. Damon went on to work in film production, marketing, merchandise, and talent management later in his career.

His production company was behind several prominent films, including “The Woodsman,” starring Kevin Bacon, and “Paid in Full,” starring Mekhi Phifer. Dash appeared in both films as well, albeit he was largely a producer.

Damon Dash | Personal Life

Dash and his fiancée Raquel Horn are expecting their first child, Dusko Dash, on November 14, 2020.
He formerly dated R&B artist Aaliyah from 2000 until her death in a plane crash in August 2001. Although the couple was not legally engaged, Dash claimed in interviews that the couple intended to marry. From 2005 to 2009, Damon was married to Rachel Roy. While Rachel Roy was an intern at Rocawear, he met her. They had two daughters, Ava Dash (born in 1999) and Tallulah Dash (born in 2002). (born in 2008). When the couple split in 2009, their daughters caused a nasty custody struggle.

Roy accused Dash of domestic violence and received exclusive custody, a three-year restraining order, and significant financial aid.

Legal Issues

Dash paid $5 million to settle a lawsuit he filed against director Lee Daniels in 2018 in order to recoup a $2 million investment with interest. He was arrested in November 2019 for failing to pay more than $400,000 in child support. Dash was arrested on two warrants while in New York City for a separate Federal Court hearing.
