Dan Hooker | Career

In 2009, Daniel Hooker began competing in MMA professionally. He won by six points in a fight in New Zealand prior to joining the UFC.

Hooker won the WKBF X-Rules Welterweight Championship and the King in the Ring Middleweight Kickboxing Championship with a kickboxing debut record of 9-1-3.

The Hangman had a similar kickboxing career, competing in 13 fights, winning 9 of them.

Daniel Hooker started taking part in MMA matches professionally in 2009. Before joining the UFC, he won a fight in New Zealand by a margin of six points.

With a 9-1-3 kickboxing debut record, Hooker won the WKBF X-Rules Welterweight Championship and the King in the Ring Middleweight Kickboxing Championship.

Similar to The Hangman, he engaged in 13 kickboxing matches and took home nine victories.

Dan Hooker has served as the head coach of the City Kickboxing gym in Auckland, New Zealand since 2008.

The former King in the Ring also opened Auckland’s Combat Academy gym in 2018. The gym specializes in teaching mixed martial arts and has a full-sized ring.

As of June 2020, Hooker had competed in 29 MMA matches, winning twenty of them while losing nine.

Hooker made his first UFC appearance on June 28, 2014, against also-newcomer Ian Entswide. Hooker was already an accomplished MMA and kickboxing competitor.

Similarly, Dan ended up winning his fight against Hatsu Hioki at Fight Night 65 on May 10, 2015.

At UFC 128 and UFC 226, respectively, Hooker knocked out Jim Miller and Gilbert Burns in a manner similar to this.

Dan Hooker also triumphed in the following three games. He defeated James Vick in the first round on July 20, 2019, at UFC on ESPN, earning his third Performance of the Night bonus.

Hooker defeated Al LaQuinta by unanimous decision on October 6, 2019, at Fight Night 243.

Hooker defeated Paul Felder in a contentious split decision on February 23, 2020, earning him the Night award’s Fight.

UFC defeats

On September 20, 2014, Hooker competed in UFC Fight Night 52 against Venezuelan professional wrestler Maximo Blanco. Hooker was defeated by a unanimous decision.

Additionally, he lost to Jason Knighton on November 27, 2016, at UFC Fight Night 101, by unanimous decision.

Edson Barboza technically knocked out Hooker in the third round of UFC on Fox 31 on December 15, 2018. It was the first time in MMA history that Hooker had lost a match via strikes.

He recently suffered a defeat to Dustin Poirier at UFC on ESPN, on June 27, 2020. He nonetheless won the Fight of the Night prize.

Not to mention that Hooker had to stay in the hospital for a few days following the fight with Poirier because of serious injuries.
