Basketball Career
Daniel is a member of Germany’s Junior national squad. The 6’9″ tall athlete represented Germany’s Junior national teams in the 2011 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship and the 2012 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship.
In July 2014, Theis made his Senior German national basketball team debut in a competition against Finland.
He also represented Germany’s senior squad in the EuroBasket 2015 qualification event.

Professional Career
Daniel Theis began his work in the youth system of Braunschweig. In 2010-11, he made his debut in the Basketball Bundesliga, Germany’s highest tier level league structure.
From 2010 to 2012, he played in the same club as his brother, Frank. As a result, he was named Eurobasket.com’s All-2 Pro B Most Improved Player of the Year in 2011.
Dennis Schroder, a future NBA player, was also a friend’s teammate. In the 2013-14 season, he was named the BBL’s Best Young Player with Ratiopharm Ulm.
Following his breakout season with Ulm, he joined Brose Bamberg, a German Bundesliga team.
In addition, he participated in the 2014 NBA Summer League for the Washington Wizards summer league squad during the off-season.
In the 2014-15 season, Theis won his first German League Championship with Brose Baskets. Brose Baskets won the championship after defeating FC Bayern Munich 3-2.
The athlete signed a new two-year contract with the Bamberg squad in April 2015 and went on to win two more German championships in 2016 and 2017.
In July of 2017, Theis signed with the Boston Celtics. He made his Boston Celtics debut against the Milwaukee Bucks in October.
He sustained an injury, a torn meniscus in his left knee, and missed the rest of the 2017-2018 season.
Theis was ruled out in October 2018 after suffering a minor tear of the plantar fascia in his right foot.
In a victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Theis had a career-high 25 points and 16 rebounds.
