And with 2,951 points in his career, Manning became the Big Eight Conference’s all-time top scorer.

He also earned the John R. Wooden Award, Naismith College Player of the Year, and Eastman Award as the college player of the year.

Danny and the Miracles

Due to Danny’s lone-handed effort and the Jayhawks’ underwhelming tournament record, the 1988 Jayhawks team earned the moniker “Danny and the Miracles” during a 1988 NCAA Final versus Oklahoma, when he tallied 18 rebounds, 31 points, two blocked shots, and five steals.

He was also named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player for his efforts. Additionally, he was a member of the Big Eight Player of the Decade and a two-time All-American.

Manning was also the 12th-highest scorer in NCAA Basketball history.

Professional Career

Manning was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers as the first overall choice in the 1988 NBA Draft. Danny was a rookie during the season and played in just 26 games.

He sadly tore his anterior cruciate ligament, necessitating arthroscopic knee surgery (ACL).

Danny did, however, make a comeback in the 1989–1990 season. The NBA season from 19921993 was also his most successful.

During that particular season, he averaged 22.8 points per game. He was chosen for the All-Star Game by the NBA due to his impressive statistics.

Atlanta Hawks

The Los Angeles Clippers traded Danny to the Atlanta Hawks on February 24, 1994.

While playing for the Atlanta Hawks in 1993 and 1994, Danny was selected to the NBA All-Star team.

Danny’s persistent knee problems forced him to transition to a part-time role for the 1996 season following two additional surgery.

Phoenix Suns

While playing with the Phoenix Suns in the 1997–98 NBA season, Danny also won the Sixth Man Award. Moreover, In the league, he was the top substitute.

The same goes for Danny, who made history by being the first NBA player to return to the field after three reconstructive knee surgeries.

Manning participated in games with the Phoenix Suns under the leadership of head coach Cotton Fitzsimmons, Scott Skiles, Danny Ainge, and Paul Westphal.

Final Years Before Retirement

Prior to the 1999–2000 season, Danny was traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Orlando Magic,  later from the Orlando Magic to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Danny made a valuable scoring contribution as a representative of the Utah Jazz. His 7.4 points and 2.6 rebounds per game average helped the Utah Jazz reach the 2001 NBA Playoffs.

While he was in Utah, Danny played for Hall of Fame coach Jerry Sloan. In a similar vein, he relocated to Dallas in 2001 to play for the Dallas Mavericks, whose coach Don Nelson is a Hall of Famer.

Under the leadership of head coach Rick Carlisle, Manning played his final NBA game with the Detroit Pistons in 2003.

Career In Coaching

Manning began working as the director of student-athlete development at the University of Kansas after announcing his retirement. In addition, he managed the team for Bill Self as the coach.

Moreover, after the conclusion of the 2006–2007 campaign, he was elevated to assistant coach. He developed into a crucial member of the coaching staff for the college squad.

Danny developed as one of the top big man coaches in the nation while working as an assistant coach at Kansas University. He worked with a total of 12 NBA draft picks and a large number of All-American recruits.

On April 4, 2012, Danny assumed the position of head coach at the University of Tulsa. The team’s total record in his first season as Golden Hurricane’s head coach was 17-16.

Tulsa was regarded as the fifth-least experienced squad in the country, but Manning assisted the club in improving upon its prior performance, and the team quickly developed into the C-USA regular-season leader.

Manning received the 2014 Conference USA Coach of the Year award while representing Tusla.

Head Coach for Wake Forest
