American basketball player Dante Lamar Cunningham most recently competed for Le Mans Sarthe Basket in the LNB Pro A. Prior to the Portland Trail Blazers selecting him with the 33rd overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, he played college basketball for Villanova.

College Career

Cunningham attended Villanova University in Pennsylvania. He participated in all 33 of Villanova’s games. He actually started four games as a freshman in college.

During his senior season, he helped the Villanova Wildcats to a tremendous victory and was recognized as the Big East’s Most Improved Player.

The Villanova Wildcats then made an effort under Cunningham to reach their first Final Four since 1985.

Professional Basketball Career

From 2009 to 2011, Cunningham played for the Portland Trail Blazers for about two years. He was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers with the number 33 pick in the 2009 NBA Draft.

He has also participated in the Las Vegas Summer League squad of the Portland Trail Blazers. In four league games, he scored over 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds on average.

On August 21, 2009, Cunningham signed a formal rookie scale contract with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Chinese Basketball League (CBA)

Cunningham played in the NBA for a sizable portion of his career. He participated in seven different NBA teams.

He participated in 715 regular-season games and 21 post-season games. In the spring of 2019, his deal with the San Antonio Spurs came to an end.

Fujian Sturgeons

A professional men’s basketball team from China called the Fujian Sturgeons competes in the CBA. The group’s headquarters are in Jinjiang, Quanzhou, and Fujian.

Cunningham was included in the squad of the Fujian Sturgeons. On December 12, 2019, he made his CBA debut for them.

In his first game, he had eight rebounds and 14 points. In reality, the outcome was a 111-107 triumph over the Beijing Ducks.

Cunningham departed China for the United States in early 2020 along with another foreign player for the Fujian Sturgeons, Eugene Jeter. They did this because the COVID-19 outbreak-caused postponement of the CBA season since late January.

In April 2013, Cunningham was accused of felony domestic assault. Miryah Herron, his then-girlfriend, claimed he choked her and banged her head against a wall.

He was charged with threatening the same individual as well.

In 2012, Cunningham and Herron dated. He moved in with her for eight months and quickly began to date her two kids by adopting them.

On April 3, 2013, the former couple argued, setting the stage for all subsequent issues.

Herron claimed that prior to that evening, Cunningham had never physically or verbally abused her. She went on to say that Cunningham being drunk may have contributed to what happened.
