The native of British Columbia had a lot riding on her performance the following season. He was doing well in his second season, just like Devon was.
He sustained a shoulder injury against the Binghamton Devils, forcing him to miss the rest of the 2017–18 campaign.
Toews’ parent team, the New York Islanders, had nonetheless had enough of him and offered him a new, two-year contract.
Toews then began the 2018–19 campaign with the Tigers before being called up to the Islanders squad after 24 games.

On October 12, 2020, the New York Islanders also dealt Devon to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for second-round picks in 2021 and 2022.
Devon has progressed in every facet of his game over every season, and he will keep doing so as long as he is still young.
