Similar to this, in the second game of a doubleheader in 1973, Dick made his major league debut against the Baltimore Orioles.

Following the game, Pole spent the following four seasons with the same group. He was alternated between the rotation and the bullpen by the squad.

In 1975, while playing for the Orioles, he had serious injuries that nearly cost him his great career. Pole was struck by Tony Muser’s line drive straight in the face, and it was a horrible sight to see.

The ball was struck so powerfully that it moved back into the foul territory not far from third base.

The upshot of the incident, which saw the opposing team win the score by two runs, was a broken jaw for the pole.

Greg acknowledged Pole as having had a big impact on him and being a key contributor to his success. In his numerous interviews, he made it quite clear that the pole was pointing in the right direction.

Additionally, Pole resumed his responsibilities as a pitching coach with the Pawtucket Red Sox after transferring to the San Francisco Giants under Dusty Baker.

For the next season, Pole chose the Montreal Expos. Pole, on the other hand, never seemed to be able to settle down with a team; it seemed as though he changed clubs every other year.

The same issue persisted when he returned to the Cubs in 2003 as a coach.
