Drew Brees is popular as an American football quarterback for the Saints of the National Football League for 20 seasons. He is also successful in keeping records of consecutive games with a touchdown pass, breaking the feat which was held by Johnny Unitas for 52 years.

Early Life and Childhood

Andrew Christopher Brees aka Drew Brees opened his eyes on the 15th of January in the year 1979. He took birth in Dallas, Texas, U.S.

He is the eldest child of Eugene Wilson and Mina Ruth who is an attorney. Furthermore, he has one younger sibling named Reid Brees.

Likewise, Drew has born into an athletic family. On the one hand, his father Eugene played basketball for the Texas A&M Aggies men’s basketball team, and his mother Mina in high school was a former all-state in three sports.

On the other hand,  His maternal grandfather, Ray Akins, is known as one of the great coaches in Texas high school football history, and his uncle Marty Akins was an All-Southwest Conference quarterback in the year 1975.

His brother Reid, played as an outfielder for the Baylor Bears baseball team. On the other hand, his grandfather fought in the battle of Okinawa.

Likewise, when he was seven, his parents both signed in the divorce papers, and they had shared custody over the kids.

Despite, a difficult time for Drew and his brother, the whole situation brought the brothers closer.

They got a half-sister named Audrey from their father’s remarriage to Amy Hightower, who was the daughter of late U.S. Representative Jack English Hightower.

Education

Drew Brees did his schooling at Westlake High School in the year 1993. In high school, he amazed people by playing basketball, baseball, and football.

Drew went to Purdue University, where he continued to play as a quarterback. During those four years, he has helped the Boilermakers win a Big Ten Championship and a trip to the Rose Bowl.

He has accumulated his graduation degree in the year 2001 in industrial management and was a Sigma Chi fraternity member.

Career and Professional life

Drew had an amazing career throughout his life. He was playing college baseball, but he got a knee injury, after which his prospects changed. He made the decision of being a quarterback as a junior in the year 1995.

However, he was not a typical quarterback; his height was shorter than the usual quarterbacks, and he was also skinny too.

But his arm was the plus point; when he made a pass, it flew straight and true and hard. In the year 1996, he was selected as Most Valuable Offensive Player. He directed the high school football team to a 16-0 record and a state championship

Drew plays important role in Joe Tiller and Jim Chaney’s unorthodox “basketball on grass” spread offense and worked as offensive captain during his junior and senior years.

Throughout his college career, Drew was successful in setting two NCAA records, 13 Big Ten Conference records, and 19 Purdue University records.

In the year 2009, he was included in Purdue’s Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame. Drew got selected by the San Diego Chargers with the first pick in the second round of the 2001 NFL draft. However, he got injured and tore his labrum in his last game.

In the year 2018, Drew exceeded the NFL records for completions and passing yards. He also finished personal best at 74.4% of his throws and has earned 12th Pro Bowl Selection.

Retirement

On March 14, 2021, fifteen years down the line after signing his first contract with the New Orleans Saints, Drew declared his retirement after 20 seasons with a heavy heart.

On the other hand, on June 11, in the year 2021, he was placed on the retired list by New Orleans Saints.

Personal Life

Drew tied a knot with his college girlfriend, Brittany Dudchenko in February 2003. Together, they are blessed with four children; three sons, Baylen, Bowen, Callen, born in January 2009, October 2010, and August 2012, respectively, and a daughter Rylen in August 2014. He lives in Uptown New Orleans with his beloved wife and children.
