Dwayne Haskins Jr is an American football quarterback who spent three seasons competing in the NFL.

He played college football at Ohio State and set records for throwing yards and touchdowns in a single season.

In addition to other conference awards, his accomplishment won him the Sammy Baugh Trophy and the Kellen Moore Award.

High School Career

Haskins and his family relocated to Potomac during his ninth-grade year. He enrolled in Bullis High School as Haskins sought more challenging opponents.

38 different institutions have made offers to Haskins. Haskins initially decided on Maryland, but once Randy Edsall, the Maryland coach, was sacked, he committed to play football at Ohio State.

College Career

Haskins redshirted his first season at Ohio State. In his second season, Haskins did not start any games as J.T. Barrett was replaced with a backup.

Haskins completed the 2017 campaign with 57 throws, 565 yards on the ground, and four touchdowns.

Record-Setting Season

For Ohio State in the 2018 college football season, Haskins started each of the team’s 14 games.

Haskins was one of just seven quarterbacks to throw for 50 touchdowns in a single season. Second, with 4831 throwing yards, Haskins broke the previous record held by Ohio State.

Haskins passed for 499 yards and 5 touchdowns against North Western in the Big Ten Football Championship game. He later received the Most Valuable Player award.

NFL Draft

Haskins worked out with quarterback coach at Bullis School Quincy Avery in advance of the NFL draft. He used to work out for six hours, four days a week. Haskins used to spend the first two hours lifting and working on his agility before practicing his throws with footwork exercises.

Haskins was chosen by the Washington Redskins as the 15th choice in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Although Joe Theismann’s jersey number 7 was unofficially retired by Washington, Haskins requested and was given it.

Against the New York Giants in Week 4, Haskins made his club debut. Despite his 107 throwing yards and three interceptions, Washington was beaten by the Giants 24-3.

Haskins started for Washington for the first time in a 24-9 defeat to the Buffalo Bills later in week 9. Dwayne earned his first victory as a starter in week 12 as Washington defeated the Detroit Lions 19-16.

Haskins was selected as a starter and one of the team captains for Washington for the 2020 season.

First Covid Protocol Breach

Haskins first violated the league’s Covid regulation in October, just before the game against the New York Giants.

He asked a member of his family to stay at the team hotel in New York. Later, Washinton penalized him $4,833 for violating the rules. Haskins was thus benched and remained a backup quarterback until week 14.

Haskins was allowed to play for the first time following a protocol violation in a game against the San Francisco 49ers. He arrived in place of the injured Alex Smith.

In the next game, Haskins made his debut in opposition against the Seattle Sea Hawks. Haskins completed 295 yards of passing, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

Release And New Team

Haskins didn’t wear a mask when he went to his cousin’s (girlfriend’s) birthday celebration in December. Another violation of the Covid-19 policy was caused by the party photo.

Later, for breaching regulations once more, Haskins was penalized $40,000 and demoted to the post of captain. He was benched in the fourth quarter of the previous game but began that one afterward. He completed 14 throws for 154 yards, two interceptions included.

Before the conclusion of the second year, Washington let Haskins go after talking to both sides. On January 21, 2021, Haskins signed a future deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, another NFL franchise.
