Dylan Larkin, a seasoned ice hockey player, has served as the Detroit Red Wings’ interim captain. Larkin was chosen by the Wings as a member of the National Hockey League with the 15th overall choice in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft (NFL).

Early Life, Family, and Education

Ice hockey player Dylan Larkin was born in Waterford, Michigan, in the United States. His parents, Sidney Denise Larkin and Kevin Larkin are proud of him.

Along with his parents and older brother, Colin Larkin, Dylan grew up in his hometown. It’s intriguing to observe that Dylan is not his family’s only ice hockey player.

His older sibling, Colin, completed his collegiate hockey career and agreed to a one-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers. Additionally, Ryan and Adam, Dylan’s cousins, play ice hockey.

After graduating from high school, Larkin began his college career at the University of Michigan. He participated there for the Michigan Wolverines in the 2014–15 season.

In January, he was given the Hockey Commissioners Association’s National Rookie of the Month award. Not to mention, in his first season, Larkin was the best freshman in college hockey.

Early Career

With Detroit Belle Tire, Dylan has previous experience playing minor league ice hockey. He participated in the 2009 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament at a young age with the team.

During the 2012–13 season, Larkin made his USA Hockey U17 team debut. Larkin achieved the same feat, scoring 13 goals and 14 assists in just 55 games.

In four games in the Four Nations Tournament in Switzerland in 2012, he scored one goal and contributed one assist. In addition, the USA team won the competition.

Larkin, who has an exceptional resume, rejoined the NTDP’s U18 team for the 2013–14 season. He came in second with 31 goals and fourth with 56 points in 60 games.

Dylan was selected to take part as a result.

Professional Career

Following a successful first season with the Michigan Wolverines, Larkin signed a three-year, entry-level deal with the Detroit Red Wings on May 21, 2015.

He was promptly assigned to the Red Wings’ AHL club, the Grand Rapids Griffins, following an amateur tryout.

Young Dylan made his professional debut on May 24, 2015, during the Griffins’ game against the Utica Comets. In his second game, Larkin scored the first goal of his career against Jacob Markstrom.

Larkin was the youngest player under the age of 19 to make his debut on opening night since Mike Sillinger in 1990–1991 when the final roster for the 2015–16 season was released in October.

Dylan scored his first goal against Toronto Maple Leafs forward Jonathan Bernier in the second period of his NHL debut, as well as his first assist in the first.

Later in November, with seven goals in just 13 games, he took the lead in the NHL Rookie of the Month voting.

On March 24, 2016, Larkin fired his 200th shot of the year, becoming the fifth Red Wings rookie.

He finished third with 18 points, had 64 shots on goal in 24 games, and led the rookies with ten goals. Additionally, Larkin was named the NHL Rookie of the Month.

He was also named to the 2016 NHL All-Star Game. Since Yzerman in 1984, he was the first rookie to participate in the All-Star Game.

Larkin Hockey School

Dylan, his brother, and his cousins established the Larkin Hockey School at Lakeland Ice Arena in 2016 as a way to give back to the neighborhood.

It’s interesting to remember that Lakeland Arena was where the Larkins all discovered their love of hockey. As a result, they are now inspiring other kids who love ice hockey to follow in their footsteps.

Ice hockey players should leave their home rink in the same manner, according to Larkins. Larkins also has two younger cousins, one from Milwaukee and the other from Toronto, who are participating in their hockey camp.

The Larkin cousins have been able to convey some of the lessons they’ve learned over the years to others thanks to their experience playing collegiate and professional hockey.
