Early in his career, he joined the Badgers wrestling squad, where he wrestled as a heavyweight in 2012. When Eric began wrestling at Franklin High School, no one knew him.

Even though he put in a lot of effort while working under coach Barry Davis at the University of Wisconsin, where he competed in the NCAA Division I, nobody recognized who he was.

By the end of his final year of college, he had amassed a 56-55 record after heavyweight wrestling and other activities.

Up until that moment, he had taken part in two NCAA Championships, one in 2011 in Omaha, Nebraska, and the other in 2001 in Philadelphia.

After that, Eric started working as a strength coach and volunteer assistant coach in Wisconsin.

Professional Career

Sullivan defeated Bugenhagen in his first match in professional wrestling on the October 19, 2017 episode of WWE NXT Live.

Following a significant setback from injury, he made a comeback to wrestling at NXT live events under the ring name Ric Boog. Bugenhagen competed as himself on February 6th on NXT and lost to Drew Gulak.

As Rik Bugez, he competed in a 20-man battle royal on the May 1 episode of WWE Worlds Collide against other well-known wrestlers including Roderick Strong, Brian Kendrick, Akira Tozawa, Drew Gulak, Tyler Bate, and Drew Gulak.

On the February 21, 2019 edition of WWE NXT Live, the reigning NXT Tag Team Champions, The Viking Raiders were beaten by Bugez and Denzel Dejournette.

Similarly, On the February 22, 2020 episode of WWE NXT Live, Bugez wrestled against Finn Balor in a losing effort in another crucial match of his career.

Bugez was one of numerous NXT performers that were deployed as a part of an imagined audience on Raw when the COVID-19 epidemic initially emerged in 2020.

Before winning the WWE 24/7 Championship twice at WrestleMania 37 by defeating R-Truth and Akira Tozawa, Bugez made multiple backstage appearances at Fastlane as the Old Spice representative figure Joseph Average/The Nightpanther.


Using the slightly modified ring name Rick Boogs, Bugez made his SmackDown debut on May 21, 2021, by bringing Shinsuke Nakamura to the ring with an electric guitar.

He first entered the ring on the August 20 episode of SmackDown, teaming up with Nakamura to defeat Apollo Crews and Commander Azeez.

At WrestleMania 38, Boogs and Nakamura faced off against The Usos for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship, which The Usos ultimately won and kept. After suffering a quadriceps/patellar tendon injury during the game, Boogs needed surgery.

At Evolve 143, an occasion that Evolves promoted while they were partners with WWE, on January 17, 2020, Bugenhagen, ring name Rik Bugez, participated in his first match in the independent scene.

Against Joe Gacy, he was defeated. At Evolve 144 later that night, Bugez won his first match by defeating Anthony Greene.
