Evan McPherson is an American football placekicker for the National Football League’s Cincinnati Bengals.

He attended Florida before being drafted by the Bengals in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, making him the only kicker chose that year.

Early Life, Family & Education

Evan McPherson was born on July 21, 1999, as the second child of Ladon McPherson and Amber McPherson.

At a steel mill in Fort Payne, LaDon McPherson is still employed as the quality manager.

His mother Amber works as a Forensic Interviewer and Family Advocate at the Dekalb County Children Advocacy Center.

She has also long served as the First Baptist Church of Fort Payne’s drama director. His parents are both natives of Alabama.

Evan was educated at Fort Payne City School despite being a native of the city. Logan, his older brother, was a kicker for his school’s football team and was interested in the sport. Evan frequently observed his brother playing as a child, and over time, he too became motivated.

Despite coming from a middle-class background, Evan’s parents always supported their children in following their passions. As a result, they sent him to a nearby kicking camp in Alabama where he played football and sharpened his kicking technique.

Evan made rapid progress, and shortly after, he started serving as Fort Payne’s kicker in imitation of his brother.

In order to practice as much as possible, Evan had set up his soccer field in his backyard at the time.

High School Career

At Fort Payne City School, where he had been enrolled since he was a youngster, Evan McPherson began participating in football.

Throughout high school, he played football and received even more praise than his older brother, Logan. Evan played a key role in his team’s ability to win the 6A state championship as a freshman.

The football prodigy also put on a fantastic performance in almost every game. By the time he graduated from high school, he had won more awards than even his own older brother.

He came within one yard of becoming the longest-range goal scorer in Alabama High School history, though.

College Career

McPherson joined the University of Florida to play football in college, and he quickly distinguished himself. He had a strong performance, earning him multiple SEC Freshman of the Week honors during his rookie season.

He had the best field goal percentage and consistently outperformed everyone during his time in Gators Nation, following in the footsteps of Gators legend Eddy Pinero.

Evan only spent two years there, but in a minimum of 50 attempts, he made 51–60 field goals and 149–150 extra points.

He ultimately made the decision to forgo his final two seasons at the university and enter the 2021 NFL draft instead.

Professional Career

Evan was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft with the 149th overall pick. He agreed to a four-year deal with the Bengals on May 17.

Evan impressed the team management by playing well in his preseason games. As a result, he was chosen as the team’s starter for the regular season of 2021.

On September 12, 2021, against the Minnesota Vikings, he successfully attempted his first field goal of the regular season. Then, after scoring a 33-yard game-winning goal to secure his team’s victory, he was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, becoming the first player to do so.

He also set the record for the most fifty-yard field goals in a season during the same campaign. After playing well against the Las Vegas Lakers, he was awarded another AFC Special Teams Player of the Week award.

McPherson attempted field goals on 84.8% of his attempts for the season. Additionally, in a game against the Los Angeles Lakers, he made 4 out of 5 field goals, helping his team win its first playoff game in 31 years.

Evan McPherson is the only Fort Payne resident who has ever participated in an NFL regular-season game.

Age, Height & Weight

The young NFL star will be 23 years old in 2022.

When it comes to height, Evan is one of the Bengals’ smaller players. He is approximately 185 lb (84 kg) and 1.80 m (5 feet 11 inches) tall.

He has gorgeous blue eyes and slightly brownish hair. Speaking of his physical attributes, he has an athletic body that suits him well.
