Joseph Antonio Cartagena, popularly known as Fat Joe, is a New York City-based American rapper. He got his start in music as a member of the hip-hop group Diggin’ in the Crates Crew.

Fat Joe was born Joseph Antonio Cartagena in the Bronx, New York City, to Puerto Rican and Cuban parents. He began stealing at a young age to support his family while living in the Forest Houses, a public housing project in the Morrisania neighborhood of the South Bronx.

Represent, his debut album, was released in 1993 and featured production by The Beatnuts, Diamond D, Lord Finesse, and others. Watch Out
Later in 1995, Fat Joe released Jealous One’s Envy as his second studio album. Joe met fellow Latino rapper Big Pun, who appeared on the song “Watch Out,” while recording Jealous One’s Envy. Joe’s third album, Don Cartagena, and his first for Atlantic Records was released on September 1, 1998. “Bet Ya Man Can’t Triz,” “John Blaze,” and “Don Cartagena” were among the three hits with music videos from the album.
In 1999, he worked with late rapper Big Pun on Jennifer Lopez’s single “Feelin’ So Good” from her On the 6 albums.
Jealous Ones Still Envy & I Want You
Fat Joe’s Jealous Ones Still Envy (J.O.S.E. ) is his fourth one, which was released in 2001, and featured Irv Gotti’s production.
Later in 2003, Fat Joe appeared in the pop song “I Want You” by Mexican singer Thala. Fat Joe’s sixth album, All or Nothing, was released a year later, in 2005, and includes the popular diss track “My Fofo,” which was addressed at rival New York rapper 50 Cent, who had earlier chastised Joe for working with Ja Rule.
Me, Myself & I and The Elephant in the Room
Me, Myself & I, Fat Joe’s sixth studio album, was released in 2006. In his June 18, 2007 billboard campaign “Stop Listening to Trash,” Catholic priest Michael Pfleger singled out Fat Joe as one of several rappers he alleged fostered misogyny.
Also that month, Fat Joe participated in DJ Khaled’s single “We Takin’ Over” with Akon, T.I., Rick Ross, Birdman, and Lil Wayne, as well as on the remix of Khaled’s “I’m So Hood” with Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Rick Ross, Busta Rhymes, Big Boi, Ludacris, and Birdman.

Fat Joe’s eighth solo studio album, J.O.S.E. 2, was released at the end of June 2009. It debuted at number 73 on the Billboard 200.

Later on, on March 28, 2010, Fat Joe and E1 Music signed a deal. On July 27, 2010, The Darkside Vol. 1 was released and sold approximately 12,000 copies in its first week, debuting at number 27 on the Billboard 200.
