On April 8, 1982, Gennady Golovkin was born in Karaganda, Kazakh SSR, Soviet Union. His mother was a Korean who worked as a lab technician, while his father was a Russian, and a coal miner.

Additionally, He has a close relationship with his twin brother Maxim as well as his elder brothers Vadim and Sergey. At the age of eight years old, his elder brothers encouraged him to try boxing.

Further, When Victor Dmitriev initially joined a boxing gym in Maikuduk, Karaganda, he became his first boxing teacher. He had a scholarship with the ‘Olympic Solidarity’ program from November 2002.

At the 2003 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Bangkok, he earned a gold medal by beating Oleg Mashkin.

He went on to pursue a professional career with ‘Universum Box-Promotion,’ debuting in May 2006. After many years Golovkin’s contract with ‘Universum’ was terminated in January 2010 due to disagreements.

Moreover, He accepted a contract with K2 and began training in Big Bear, California, under the direction of renowned trainer Abel Sanchez.

On August 14, 2010, Gennady won his first major world championship after beating Columbian boxer Milton Nez to win the WBA interim middleweight title.

He successfully defended his WBA (Regular) middleweight championship against US professional boxer Lajuan Simon on December 9, 2011.

Again, he successfully defended his WBA & IBO middleweight belts against American professional boxer Curtis Stevens on November 2, 2013, at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.

Gennady successfully defended his championship for the 13th consecutive bout on February 21, 2015, in the “Salle des Etoiles” in Monte Carlo against British professional boxer Martin Murray.

On April 23, 2016, he competed against Dominic Wade, an American professional boxer, at “The Forum” in Inglewood, California. He successfully defended his WBA, IBF, IBO, & WBC interim middleweight belts by defeating Wade, who had been undefeated up until that point.

Consequently, On March 18, 2017, Golovkin faced American professional boxer, Daniel Jacobs, in a sold-out Madison Square Garden arena.

Additionally, He won against Canadian boxer Steve Rolls on June 8, 2019, at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
