Price scored a try in the championship game as Cross Keys won the 2011–12 WRU Challenge Cup during Price’s time with the team.

When Gerwyn was a rugby player, he represented Glasgow Warriors in the Pro12 and Neath and Cross Keys in the Welsh Premier Division.

For the South Wales Scorpions, he also participated in rugby league. However, Gerwyn stopped playing rugby in 2014 to devote all of his attention to darts.

Starting with darts

Gerwyn began his darts career with the Markham Welfare squad, his hometown team. He then moved to Aberbargoed in the Super League after that.

The player won the second contest after Welsh darts specialist Barrie Bates advised him to sign up for qualifying college so he could join the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) in January 2014.

On that particular day, he won six matches, including a 5-3 triumph over Rowby-John Rodriguez that earned him a two-year tour card.

Price qualified to participate in the 2014 UK Open. However, Aden Kirk defeated him 5-2 in the following round.

His Darts Career is Growing

In the first half of 2014, Michael van Gerwen and Stephen Bunting defeated Gerwyn in the round of 16 in two Players Championship competitions.

Gerwyn also defeated former world number one Colin Lloyd in the European Darts Open in July, winning 6-2 and averaging 98.32.

Additionally, in the second round, he had a 2-0 lead over Gary Anderson. But he fell short 6-3.

Similar results occurred at the 13th Players Championship, where the Welsh player defeated Lloyd, Kirk, James Wade, and Wayne Jones.

He had never advanced past the quarterfinals before. In the quarterfinals, Adrian Lewis defeated Gerwyn 6-5.

Price earned a spot in the mid-September European Darts Trophy in Leipzig. He won 6-3 over Bernd Roith in the opening round.

He also advanced to the subsequent round and ran across Steve Beaton there.

Price overcame Beaton 6-3 with a heroic performance that included the highest score in the competition—167—and went on to defeat Vincent van der Voort in the next game.

Gerwyn needed to advance to the semifinals to earn a spot in the 2014 World Grand Prix, but Andy Hamilton defeated him 6-3 in the first round.

Price reached the 19th Players Championship semifinals before falling to Ian White, 6-3, continuing his stellar start to his darts career.

On the PDC Order of Merit, the Welsh Player entered the top 64 for the first time in 2015.

Additionally, in 2016 he entered the top 32 on the PDC Order of Merit for the first time. In a similar vein, Gerwyn made his PDC Order of Merit debut in the top 16 in 2017.

Gerwen became the first Welshman to win a PDC televised major when he won the Grand Slam of Darts in 2017.
