Gilbert Arenas is a former professional basketball player from the United States who was a three-time NBA All-Star and a member of the All-NBA Team.

The Golden State Warriors selected him with the 31st overall choice in the 2001 NBA draft. In addition, he was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player for the 2002-03 season.

Professional Career

The Golden State Warriors selected Gilbert Arenas as the 31st overall pick in the second round of the 2001 NBA Draft.

Arenas were named Most Valuable Player of the Rookie and the NBA Most Improved Player Award shortly after making his club debut.

Later, in 2003, Gilbert committed to a seven-year deal with the Washington Wizards. He was a wise addition to the Wizards, where he played during his heyday.

While playing for the Wizards, he also won numerous honors and awards.

In 2010, the Washington Wizards traded him to the Orlando Magic. Before leaving the NBA, he briefly played for the Memphis Grizzlies and the Shanghai Sharks.

Gilbert Arenas Rule

Following the 2002–2003 season, Gilbert was given permission to become a restricted free agent. He reportedly tossed a coin to decide between the Golden State Warriors, Washington Wizards, and Los Angeles Clippers.

Additionally, The Washington Wizards offered him a six-year, $60 million contract. The Warriors were unable to match this offer since they were over the salary cap and Arenas was taken in the second round.

If Arenas had been selected in the first round due to salary cap exclusions, the Warriors would have been permitted to match the offer sheet.
