Gordon James Ramsay, OBE, is a British chef, restaurateur, writer, and member of the television industry. His restaurant group, Gordon Ramsay Restaurants, has acquired a total of 17 Michelin stars since its foundation in 1997; it now has seven.

Gordon Ramsay| Early Life, Education, and Family

British Cheif, Gordon James Ramsay was born on November 8, 1966, in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, Scotland. When he was five years old, his family moved to England, where he was raised in Stratford-upon-Avon.

His family had to move around a lot as a child because of his father’s ambitions and professional failures.

His father was a womanizer, a heavy drinker, and a sometimes violent person. Ramsay moved into his own apartment when he was 16 years old, leaving his family’s home.

When Ramsay was a teenager, he was a passable football or soccer player, but an injury cut short his playing career. Ramsay went back to school and graduated with a degree in hotel administration in 1987. He went to Activate Learning as well.

Early Career

Ramsay made the decision to invest more time in his culinary studies when he was 19 years old in order to avoid being referred to as “the football player with the gammy knee.” In his teenage years, he became interested in cooking.

Under the patronage of Rotarians, Ramsay enrolled at North Oxfordshire Technical College to study hotel management. He describes the decision to attend catering school as “a pure accident.”

In the middle of the 1980s, he worked as a commis chef at the Wroxton House Hotel. He ran the kitchen and the 60-seat dining room at the Wickham Arms until his involvement with the wife of the owner made things difficult.

After working at Harvey’s for two years and ten months, Ramsay believed that studying French cuisine would help him progress his career since he was sick of “the rages and the bullying and violence.”

It was there that he met Jean-Claude Breton, who would later become his maître d’hôtel at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay.

Head chef

Ramsay had the chance to work under chef-patron Pierre Koffmann at the three-Michelin-starred La Tante Claire in Chelsea after moving back to London in 1993.

Shortly after that, Marco Pierre White returned and promised to help him out by getting him a job as head chef and a 10% ownership stake in the Rossmore, which was owned by White’s business partners.

With the assistance of his father-in-law Chris Hutcheson and his former Aubergine colleagues, Ramsay founded his own restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, in Chelsea in 1998.

When the restaurant received its third Michelin star in 2001, Ramsay became the first Scot to do so. The only restaurant in the UK to receive a rating higher than Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in 2011 was The Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire.

He debuted his first eatery in the Western US in May 2008 at the Sunset Strip’s London West Hollywood Hotel. The restaurant was shut down in 2015 when the contract ended.

Gordon Ramsay Holdings

All of Ramsay’s commercial holdings are held through the company Gordon Ramsay Holdings Limited, which he and his father-in-law Chris Hutcheson co-founded on October 29, 1997. Ramsay owns a 69% stake, valued at £67 million in 2007.

In November 2006, Ramsay announced plans to open three restaurants in the US, in contrast to past ventures, which acted as a combined consultant/brand.

At the Cielo in Boca Raton, Florida, the London Hotel in West Hollywood, California, and the London Hotel in Manhattan in 2006/2007, these made their debuts in October 2006

Due to problems identified by the Michelin reviewers in October 2013, Gordon Ramsay at The London restaurant in New York lost its two Michelin stars
