Harvey Weinstein is a former American film producer. Together with his brother, Bob Weinstein, he co-founded Miramax, an entertainment company that produced a number of well-liked independent movies. Later, he also established The Weinstein Company.

After their parents Miriam and Max passed away, Weinstein and his brother used the money from their concert promotion company to found the independent film distribution company Miramax in the late 1970s.

In close collaboration with Martin Lewis, the producer of the original movies, the Weinstein brothers combined the two films into a single work that was created exclusively for the American market.
