Hector Garza | Career

For nearly 20 years, the renowned wrestler Garza has had a successful career in Mexico.

He only played for AAA and CMLL. In addition to his outstanding career in Mexico, Hector also had a brief stint with TNA, WCW, and the WWF.

Early Career

Hector debuted in professional wrestling in 1992. He was initially prepared and coached by Mr. Lince, Blue Fish, and his uncle Mario Segura.

Hector also took up his dad’s name as his ring name. He entered the wrestling business with high hopes and steadfast enthusiasm.

The talented athlete started competing for the Federation International de Lucha Libre in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon (FILL). One is the FILL of the International Wrestling Federation.

At the beginning of his career, Garza squared against El Sanguinario in 1993. He did an excellent job of playing the “Tecnico,” or face, role.

On June 6, 1993, Hector also triumphed over El Sanguinario to get his first professional win.

Consejo Mudial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) Career

The World Wrestling Council in Mexico City, or CMLL, tried to reestablish its footing when AAA arose as a rival.

CMLL hired Hector Garza to assist with the groundwork and image restoration.

The infamous “rudos,” also known as the villains Bestia Salvaje and Satanico, eventually faced him in hair contests.

Garza became known as one of the top faces very fast. After two years in CMLL, Garza left to join AAA in 1996 to advance his career.

AAA /WWF Career

Hector joined AAA in 1996, a step up for the illustrious wrestler.

Garza had the chance to compete for the WWF, a US-based promotion, thanks to his AAA contract.

When he participated in the WWF for the first time on television, he defeated T.L. Hopper.

Then, on the 1997 Royal Rumble pay-per-view, Hector, El Canek, and Perro Aguayo made a cameo.

Hector participated in several WWF competitions, although his time there was limited.

On March 10, 1997, the 200th episode of Monday Night Raw featured his final WWF match.

Hector also worked for AAA and was a part of the famed band La Maquina del Amor (The Love Machine). This role-playing increased their attraction to female fans.

But in mid-1997, the AAA/WWF alliance ended, leading many AAA wrestlers to go to World Championship Wrestling (WCW).

World Championship Wrestling (WCW) Career

Garza, who joined WCM in 1997, became well-known for his distinctive wrestling move, the “corkscrew plancha.”

He challenged Steven Regal to his first WCW championship match on June 30, 1997, but Regal won the game in just under four minutes.

Hector, Juventud Guerrera, and Lizmark Jr. made their WCW PPV debuts at the Bash at the Beach that same year.

Garza also joined the Eddie Guerrero-primarily established Latino World Order (IWO), a professional wrestling association.

Garza and Silver King left WCW after winning their farewell match against Los Villanos on October 1, 1999.

Returning to AAA

At the end of 1999, Hector, a member of the Latino World Order, decided to rejoin AAA.

He quickly became involved in a longer-lasting fight involving Heavy Metal, Perro Aguayo Jr., and Heavy Metal.

After moving back to AAA, Hector won more titles. On December 26, 1999, Garza defeated Pirata Morgan to claim the IWC World Heavyweight Championship.

Similarly to that, Hector won the Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship by defeating Sangre Chicana after two months.

Hector defeated other Guerra de Titanes combatants to claim the Mexican National Heavyweight Championship on May 5, 2002.

At the end of 2002, Latin Lover assaulted Garza, causing him to shave his head for the first time.

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling

Hector, a wrestler known for his extreme flexibility, visited the United States in 2004 to take part in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.

Hector and four other wrestlers also shared the America X-Cup title.

Sadly, Hector returned to take part in TNA Victory Road 2004 after his discharge from the AAA-TNA contract.

He was awarded a twenty-man X-Division Gauntlet there. Hector continued to experience these triumphs, acclaim, and popularity wherever he went.

He managed to become a popular wrestler in Mexico despite being arrested and deported.

When Garza was apprehended, he claimed that the pills were prescription ones and stated that he had no idea that steroids were prohibited in the country.

Hector’s career in the US was sadly over after this occurrence. He was later barred from entering the US and returned to Mexico.

Hector Garza | Death

On May 26, 2013, Hector succumbed to cancer after a year-long struggle. He was still Mexico’s heavyweight national champion at the time of his death.

His admirers and followers send their condolences to him from all around the world. The Mexico City Boxing and Wrestling Commission temporarily halted it as a tribute to Garza.

Three years after his passing, on August 9, 2015, at Triplemania XXIII, Garza was remembered for being inducted into the AAA Hall of Fame.

One of his nephews, Humberto Garza Solano, also adopted parts of Hector’s movements and mannerisms, changing his ring moniker to “Garza Jr.”
