2000s

Two of Hunt’s four films from 2000, the comic Dr. T & the Women and the tragic Pay It Forward, were released in October. She starred opposite Richard Gere in the first movie as one of the women who embody the life of a wealthy physician.

At the same time, Kevin Spacey played the love interest of an elementary school teacher who has been physically and emotionally damaged. Roger Ebert praised her for her performance despite calling the film Pay It Forward “quite emotionally manipulative.”

Hunt made her film directorial debut with the film Then She Found Me. She is also featured as a 39-year-old Brooklyn elementary school teacher who is approached by a flamboyant local talk show personality played by Bette Midler and told that she is her biological mother.
