Professional Life and Career
College
Kinsler was drafted in the first round of the MLB draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2000 and 2001.
But he turned it down both times, believing he wasn’t ready for the MLB. Instead, he attended Central Arizona College and played baseball.
Following that, he traveled to the University of Missouri Tigers at the invitation of Tigers coach Tim Jamieson.
Kinsler was selected in the 17th round of the 2003 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers (overall: 496th).

Minor Leagues
Kinsler signed a $30,000 deal with the Texas Rangers on his twenty-first birthday.
In the 2003 season, he was a member of the Spokane Indians. He also worked with the Rangers’ physical trainers to improve his athletic ability.
Kinsler began the 2004 season with the Low-A Clinton LumberKings before being promoted to the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders in mid-season.
He spent the winter season with the Peoria Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League.
He also spent the 2005 season with the Triple-A Oklahoma RedHawks. Due to the absence of Alfonso Soriano, he was moved from shortstop to second base.
MLB
Kinsler immediately secured his starting place at second base in 2006 due to Soriano’s absence. On April 3, 2006, he made his MLB debut against the Boston Red Sox on opening day.
He tied an MLB record with eight plate appearances in a nine-inning game in August 2007. He was also one of only six batters in the American League with 20 or more stolen bases and home runs.
Ian, on the other hand, damaged the left side of his groin during a defensive play on August 17, 2008, and developed a sports hernia that required season-ending surgery.
Unfortunately, he was forced to miss the final 37 games of the season owing to the injury.
He led the Rangers in stolen bases despite missing the final six weeks of the season. Kinsler later agreed to a five-year, $22 million contract extension in 2008.
Furthermore, He was also an AL All-Star for the 79th All-Star Game, which was held at Yankee Stadium in 2008. However, in fan voting, he was defeated by Dustin Pedroia by about 34,000 votes.
Similarly, He reached the 30-30 club after his outstanding performance in 2009. He was also the fourth Rangers player to hit for the cycle on April 15, 2009.
Kinsler had the fifth-best fielding base percentage in the league (.985) in 2010. For the second time in his career, he was also named to the AL All-Star team.
In 2011, he became the first player in MLB history to blast two lead-off home runs in the opening two games. He became the 12th player in history to complete the 30-30 club for the second time.
For the third time in his career, he was named to the Al All-Star team in 2012. He became the Texas Rangers’ all-time stolen base leader a year later.
Tigers of Detroit
The Rangers and Tigers traded two All-Stars in 2013, Ian Kinsler and Prince Fielder, in a blockbuster deal. At the Detroit Tigers, he had the honor of wearing the renowned #3.
He was named to the All-Star team for the fourth time as a result of his outstanding play. Wilson Defensive Player of the Year was bestowed upon him the same season.
He earned the Fielding Bible Award in his second year in Detroit. He was awarded the Gold Glove Award at second base after the 2016 season. In 2017, he did appear to be a little slower.
Angels of Los Angeles
Ian was sent to the Los Angeles Angels in December 2017 in exchange for Troy Montgomery and Wilkel Hernandez. In July 2018, despite his excellent performance, he was traded to the Boston Red Sox.

Ian received his second career gold glove for second base after his debut season with the Red Sox.
Kinsler won his first World Series ring against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2018 World Series after a long wait.
Padres of San Diego
Kinsler’s season was cut short due to a herniated disc in his neck. Ian Michael Kinsler played his final MLB game against the Tampa Bay Rays on August 12th, 2019.

Kinsler married his high school girlfriend Tess Brady in 2006. Tess and Ian originally met at Canyon del Oro High School in 1999.
