In the Johnny Depp defamation trial, model Kate Moss testified to refute rumors about her relationship with the actor.
The Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial in Virginia continued this week, with Depp suing Heard for $50 million (£40.4 million) in defamation over an op-ed she wrote in 2018 on her domestic abuse experience.
Even though Depp was not named in the piece, he has argued that it cost him his career. Amber is suing for $100 million (£80.9 million).
Heard mentioned a rumor that Depp pushed his ex-girlfriend, supermodel Kate Moss, down a flight of stairs during her testimony.
Moss and Depp dated for three years, from 1994 to 1998, and were said to fight frequently, with multiple allegations of heated disagreements – though neither has ever talked publicly about the staircase incident.’
‘She [Whitney] pushed herself in the line of fire…’ Heard said, referring to an incident in which she allegedly punched Depp in the face to protect her sister Whitney.
She was pleading with Johnny to take a break. Johnny strikes at her from behind, with her back to the stairwell. I think about Kate Moss and stairwells, therefore I don’t hesitate.’
The mere mention of the model’s name caused Depp’s lawyers to rejoice, and Moss was summoned to testify as a rebuttal witness for Depp, causing analysts and insiders to speculate on what she would divulge to the judge.
In her testimony, what did Kate Moss say?
Kate Moss admitted to dating Depp from ‘1994 to 1998’ while under oath. The event occurred while they were on vacation at the GoldenEye resort in Jamaica, and Depp’s lawyer quizzed her about it.
‘We were getting ready to leave the room, and Johnny left before I did,’ Kate explained. ‘There had been a thunderstorm, and as I walked out of the room, I went down the stairs, injuring my back, and I screamed because I was in tremendous pain and had no idea what had happened to me. He came back to help me, bringing me to my room and getting me medical help.’
‘No, he never pushed, kicked, or shoved me down any stairs,’.
Kate responded when asked if she was ever pushed down the stairs throughout their relationship.
‘Why did you decide to testify today?’ said Depp’s lawyer.
But before she could respond, Heard’s lawyer objected. Moss was subsequently let go without being cross-examined.

What does Amber Heard get out of Kate Moss’ testimony?
The trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard is in its sixth week, which means it will conclude on Friday, May 27.
As a result, Moss’ testimony will be one of the last items heard by the jury, potentially harming her case, according to analysts.
When Heard referenced Moss during her testimony last week, Depp’s lawyers rejoiced because it provided them the opportunity to summon Moss as a witness.
Moss has long praised Depp and was anticipated to testify that theirs was a non-violent relationship.
