Jack Louis Del Rio Jr. was born on April 4, 1963, in Castro Valley, California. He is a former American Footballer and current American Football Coach.

Del Rio is the defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League.

Jack Del Rio I Family, Parents, and Education :

Jack Del Rio was born to his parents Jack Del Rio, Sr. We don’t have information about his biological mother, but we will inform you about that soon. However, he has a stepmom named Peggy Lee.

He got married to Linda Del Rio in 1998. He has 4 children Aubrey, Hope, Lauren, and Luke Del Rio.

Del Rio completed his high school at Hayward High School in Hayward, California. Moreover, he developed his notable three-sport athlete, earning all-state honors in football, baseball, and basketball.

Jack completed his under graduation at the University of Southern California. He played college football as a linebacker in South California.

Del Rio started his career in high school with the Toronto Blue jays in the 22nd round of the 1981 MLB Draft. However, he chose a scholarship from the University of Southern California to play both football and baseball.

In baseball, Del Rio was a two-year starter at catcher on the team.

Meanwhile in football Del Rio was a four-year starter. He made the third-team 1983 All-American tea in his junior year. Jack earned consensus All-American honor and finished second for Lombardi Award.

Jack ended his college career with 340 tackles, among them 58 tackles came on the losing side. Del Rio was named second-team All-Pac-10 in 1984. Unfortunately, for the first time in his college career, he did not make the first team.

New Orleans Saints:

In 1985 New Orleans Saints selected  Del Rio selected in the NFL draft in the third round. Additionally, he was also selected by the Los Angeles Express in the 1985 USFL Territorial Draft.

Jack played nine games at nine inside linebackers and sealed the franchise record with five close encounter recoveries and earned NF All-rookie honors.

Moreover, Del Rio recorded 68 tackles, five passes defended, and three forced fumbles. In 1986, Alvin Toles took over Jack’s starting position. He recorded only 20 tackles during the season.

Kansas City Chiefs:

In August 1987, Del Rio was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a fifth-round draft choice. He started nine games at right outside linebacker, counting 45 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble.

Del Rio started ten games at left outside linebacker in 1988, with 77 tackles, one sack, and one pass defense. They released him on August 29, 1989.

Dallas Cowboys:

On August 30, 1989, Del Rio was signed by Dallas Cowboys. He started as a strongside linebacker in the fifth game against the Green Bay Packers.

However, he missed the next two games because of a bruised calf. Jack finished the season with 58 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and one pass defense.

Moreover, In the next year, he made 104 tackles, 1.5 sacks, four quarterback pressures, and two defense.

Jack replaced Eugene as the starter at middle linebacker in 1991. He led the team with 130 total tackles, 53 assists, and 77 solo tackles.

Jack left the Cowboys as a free agent in 1990.

Minnesota Vikings:

On March 4, 1992,  Minnesota Vikings signed with Del Rio as a free agent. Jack led the team in tackles for three consecutive years and was selected to the 1995 Pro Bowl In 1995.

Miami Dolphins:

On June 2, 1996, Del Rio signed a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins. Jack couldn’t maintain his performance with Miami and was shifted down in the chart. On August 4, he got released by Miami Dolphins.

Del Rio finished his career with 160 game appearances (128 starts), 1,005 tackles, 13 sacks, and 13 interceptions.

Del Rio started his coaching career with New Orleans Saints as a linebacker coach.

Similarly, he took the same job with Baltimore Ravens next year. Del Rio played a major role in the Ravens’ victory in the 2000 season. Moreover, after the first season, he was named defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers.

Jacksonville Jaguars:

Jack became the second head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2003. In his first season, he guided the team to a 5–11 record.

In 2004, the Jaguars were so close to winning the playoffs, but they missed the playoffs with a very close 9–7 record, the first winning record in five seasons.

The following season, the team made the playoffs for the first time since advancing to the AFC title game in 1999. However, the season ended on the losing side against New England Patriots.

On November 29, 2011, Jacksonville fired Jack as a head coach. He left with a regular season record of 68–71 and a 1–2 record in two playoff appearances over his nine years. Jack holds a very unlikely record with the Jaguars, Del Rio is the longest tenure holder head coach to never win a division title

Denver Broncos:

On November 4, 2013, when head coach John Fox was sidelined due to medical reasons. Del Rio handled the head coaching duties and was named interim head coach for several games.

Oakland Raiders:

In January 2015, Del Rio became the new head coach of the Oakland Raiders.

In 2016, the Raiders makes up for the playoff for the first time since 2002. However, they lost against Houston Texans in the wild-card round.

Additionally, on February 10, 2017, Del Rio extended his contract for the next year. However,  he was fired after the Raiders’ loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2017 regular season finale, ending with a 6-10 record.

Washington Football Team:

On January 2, 2020, Washington Football Team hired Jack as their Defensive coordinator under head coach Ron Rivera. Del Rio changed Washington’s defensive pattern from a 3-4 to a 4-3.

Del Rio was fined $100,000 along with Head Coach Ron Rivera for making a controversial tweet. He called the Capitol attack a “dust-up” and compared the storming of the capitol to overturn official election results to the rioting and looting that occurred during some of the 2020 George Floyd protests.
