When he was younger, his father, Larry, used to take him to several basketball camps. At the age of seven, Sugg also went to Dallas by himself to attend a camp.

College and Education

Suggs went to Minneapolis’ Minnehaha Academy for his high school education. Three junior varsity basketball games were played there by him.

Jalen began playing college basketball for the Gonzaga Bulldogs at Gonzaga University after completing his high school education.

Work after High School

Suggs had a stellar rookie season at Minnehaha Academy, averaging 21.5 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.

He scored a total of 22 points, 15 of which came in the second half, to defeat Crosby-Ironton High School and earn the Class 2A national title.

Suggs was a member of the inaugural team of MaxPreps Freshmen All-Americans.

He helped his team to a second Class 2A state championship during his sophomore season, averaging 16 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.

Suggs was named to the first team of the Associated Press (A.P.) All-State squad and the second team of the MaxPreps Sophomore All-American team.

He won a third consecutive Class 2A state championship in his sophomore season with 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game.

The MaxPreps Junior All-American third team and the AP All-State first team both included Suggs.

He averaged 23.3 points per game, 7.5 rebounds, five assists, and 3.9 steal as a senior.

The COVID-19 epidemic ended Suggs’ season the day after he won a section title, and as a result, he was unable to assist Minnehaha in defending its state crown.

The all-time leading scorer at his school, Suggs retired with 2,945 points in his career. He received selections for the Nike Hoop Summit, Jordan Brand Classic, and McDonald’s All-American Game.

Interestingly, Suggs has voted Minnesota A.P. Player of the Year and MaxPreps Athlete of the Year even though all three games were postponed because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Jalen also played quarterback for SMB, a joint football team that included players from Minnehaha Academy and two other institutions.

Choosing a Career

On January 3, 2020, Suggs committed to play collegiate basketball for Gonzaga University, rejecting offers from Florida, Florida State, Iowa State, and Minnesota in favor of the Bulldogs.

He is the highest-ranked participant to commit to the program.

According to ESPN, Jalen was a five-star consensus prospect and the second-best point guard in the 2020 class, only behind Cade Cunningham.

The American football player was classified as a four-star dual-threat quarterback by ESPN, but it is not expected that he will play the sport in college.

University Career

Suggs made his college debut on November 25, 2020, scoring 24 points in a 102-90 victory over Kansas.

Likewise, in his second game versus Auburn, he won with 12 points, four rebounds, and six assists.

Suggs appeared to suffer a foot injury during his match against Western Virginia before coming back later in the game.

He also won Gonzaga with an incredible final stat line of 4 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Seven reWith sevens, four assists, one block, and three steals later, Jalen led the Bulldogs with a career-high 27 points against Iowa, the third-ranked team.

Professional Life and Career

The NBA team Orlando Magic selected Suggs with the fifth overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft.

On August 9, 2021, he played in his first summer league game, a 91-89 victory over the Golden State Warriors.

In addition, Suggs made his NBA debut on October 20, 2021, scoring 10 points in a 123-97 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

Career on a national team

Suggs and the United States team took home the gold medal at the 2017 FIBA Under-16 Championship in Formosa, Argentina.

The 2018 FIBA Under-17 World Cup saw Suggs average 8.7 and 3.3 robs per game. Additionally, he took home a bonus gold game.

Suggs averaged 8.7 points and 2.8 rebounds throughout 4 games.

He joined the Americans with an average of 9,6 points per game at the 2019 FIBA World Cup in Heraklion, Greece, though, and helped his team win a gold medal.

Suggs’ 15-point performance in the championship game versus Mali was his best in the contest.

Injury | Jalen Suggs

Additionally, on November 29, 2021, during a 101-96 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, Suggs shattered his right thumb.
