He did, however, relocate to Canada with his parents when he was 9 years old. Lamar Murray, Jamal’s younger brother, is another sibling.

Roger Murray himself had a background in sports. He grew up playing basketball and running on fields and tracks.

Jamal could play basketball for countless hours as a three-year-old. He began playing in the league for 10-year-olds when he was 6 years old.

At age seven, he made 30 baskets in a row with the assistance and direction of his father. His father also introduced him to a range of development practices like kung fu training and meditation.

At age 12 to 13, Murray finally started playing pick-up games against top high school and college athletes.

Basketball Career

Murray initially enrolled in Grand River Collegiate Institute in Kitchener, where he grew up. Later, he changed schools and enrolled at Orangeville Prep in Orangeville, Ontario.

He joined the school’s team while his father was the assistant coach there. He teamed up with Thon Marker to defeat numerous American schools and bring victory to them.
