Outside linebacker James Henry Harrison Jr. is a retired American football player.  Harrison was a five-time Pro Bowl selection with the Steelers, helping them win two Super Bowls: XL and XLIII.

Early Life, Family, and Education

On May 4, 1978, the former NFL player was born in Akron, Ohio, USA.

The sportsman is the son of James Harrison Sr. and Mildred Harrison. Harrison has had a lifelong interest in sports, particularly football.

Aside from it, young James competed in track and field. His mother, on the other hand, did not want him to be a player at first.

James attended Archbishop Hoban High School and Coventry High School for his studies.

He excelled as a linebacker and running back from the start of his high school career.

Collegiate Career

After completing his high school career, James attended Kent State University and played football for the Kent State Golden Flashes.

The American-born starter started the final three games of the season in 1999, leading his team with 106 total tackles and 13 tackles.

The player excelled throughout his collegiate career.

James has 12 tackles and five sacks in a game against Miami University. He also has 98 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and 15 sacks to his credit.

He stated his desire to pursue the 2002 NFL Draft after graduating from Kent State. Regrettably, the guy went undrafted.

NFL Career

No clubs signed at first because James was too short for the football game. He was just six feet tall and far too light.

However, several teams continue to offer him invitations to training camps. Later, he was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers and spent two years on their practice squad.

Later that year, the Baltimore Ravens signed Harrison and sent him to the Rhein Fire, a European football team.

Again with the Steelers

After being released by the Cincinnati Bengals, James retired from the Steelers. He returned, though, and agreed to a two-year agreement with the Steelers for $2.65 million plus a $500k signing bonus.

Because of Harrison’s strong play, the Steelers forced him to sign a new deal with a two-year extension. Harrison, on the other hand, was unable to play for long, as he was discharged on December 23, 2017.
