Rosenberger also noticed a peculiar quality in Jame and predicted that Jame would be a Division 1 prospect by the beginning of his sophomore year.

After that, James attended Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island in 2015 and played college baseball for the Bryants Bulldogs after being undrafted out of high school.

He performed admirably in his first season, winning Rookie of the Year honors in the Northeast Conference for 2015.

However, his output did not rise as quickly as anticipated during his sophomore year.

He set a program record with 112 strikeouts, a 12-3 record, and an ERA of 2.00. He also received the NEC Pitcher of the Year award.
