At the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Woods was in the lead of the 20-kilometer walk when he was disqualified just 2 kilometers from the finish line.


Jarred Tallent: Professional Career

When Tallent placed third in the 20-kilometer walk at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, he earned his first Olympic medal.

Tallent was the first Australian to win two athletic medals in the same Olympics since 1972 after finishing second in the 50 km walk a week later.

He also accomplished it in 102 years as the first male Australian racewalker.

He finished sixth and seventh in the 20 km and 50 km walks at the 2009 World Athletics Championships.

Similar to this, Jarred Tallent placed seventh in the 20-kilometer walk in the 2012 London Olympics. A week later, Jarred won the gold medal in the 50 km walk with an Olympic record and personal best timing of 3:36:53.

In the same way, Jarred was initially awarded the silver medal. Nevertheless, the Court of Arbitration for Sport nullified Sergey Kirdyapkin’s performances from August 20, 2009, until October 15, 2012. He had been the first walker to cross the finish line.

Jarred Tallent had to drop out of the 50-kilometer walk at the 2017 World Athletics Championships due to a hamstring injury.

Jarred Tallent: Retirement

The most successful male Olympian from Australia, Jared Tallent, was unable to compete in Tokyo 2021 due to injuries, forcing him to retire at age 36.

It put an end to his aspirations to take part in a fourth consecutive Olympic Games and win more medals to add to the ones he already had from Rio 2016, Beijing 2008, and London.

Similar to how Sergey Kirdyapkin of Russia, the original winner of the 50-kilometer walk, was banned for doping, Tallent went on to win the Olympic gold medal in London in 2012.

Due to a persistent hamstring problem that prevented him from competing in Australia’s national championships last month, Jared Tallent was forced to retire.

Tallent said, “I had planned for Tokyo to be my swansong, but I’ve had a couple of setbacks from a hamstring injury, the most recent of which has put a halt to my final preparations for the big game, Australian 50km Race Walking Championships.”
